Grey Central- Public School .
Grey PS their first 'little school'
By John Maerz
It's really an honour to be chosen
as this year's 1996 valedictorian.
Especially since it was my peers that
chose me to represent them.
Most of us
have been going
to Grey for about
nine years, or for
about 1/9 of our
lives. But I, as
well as my peers,
believe that Grey
has been worth
it.
Ever since we
began school at Grey we knew we
were lucky. We had many great
things including a huge schoolground
and a myriad of playground
equipment. We also had a multitude
of sports equipment as well as an
outdoor basketball court, many
soccer fields, baseball diamonds and
also a tennis court.
Through the years we have had
many new friends come to join us at
Grey. In Grade 2 came Carla Hunt
from Elma Public School. In Grade 4
came Marten Gorter from the
Netherlands. In Grade 5 came Laura
Bank from Dublin. In Grade 6 came
Kosta Milinkovic from Kitchener.
And also in Grade 6 came Greg
Clary, also from Kitchener. In Grade
7 came David Harrison from London
and with great sorrow we lost our
new friend in Grade 8.
In Grade 8 came Laura Dillon for
her second time at Grey, moving to
Grey for Grade 8 from Wawanosh
Public School.
Over the years the school has done
many things for us. For example it
has made it possible to go skiing,
skating and go to the many sports
tournaments. Also it has let us go on
many class trips, the most recent and
most memorable of which are the
Grade 6 Michigan trip, Grade 7
Quebec trip and Grade 8 Toronto
trip.
Grey Central wouldn't be the same
without the great teaching staff. As
far as I can remember the teachers
have been teaching us all sorts of
skills that we will need to apply later
in life.
And on behalf of my student peers
I would like to take a moment to

curriculum. The framework that all of
this is woven onto is me and you.
The weavers of the dream catcher
are the people around us, those who
influence us, our parents, our
teachers, our peers, as well as others
who are part of our life. The teachers
are the ones who help fashion it, they
help us in developing socially,
intellectually, morally and
emotionally.
Most dream catchers often have
decorations on them; the way they
are placed and the significance of
them is unique. The decorations on
the dream catcher are the memories
of our nine years in elementary
school. We all have many memories
of our public years. I would like to
share some of ours with you.
thank all of the parents for the "little
things" like helping us tie our skates
when we were little, and for driving
us to school early and picking us up
from school late. And for giving us
Jason Armstrong started the chains
on people's pants. Andrea Bernard
took her speech on Unicorns very
seriously and started banging
everyone's desk in the classroom.
Judi Bondi always had a smile from
Grade K - 8. Cassie Bootzin always
came to school with frizzy hair. Tyler
Bragg was very upset when Josh
Jorritsma broke his ninja turtle watch.
Mike Brewer had an obsession with
wolverines, in Grade 8.
Also in Grade 8, Krissy Dilworth
was always hungry at ten to twelve.
In Grade one I started to cry. Patrick
Gilkes shared his reading answers
with some of the class, and you could
always count on Andrew Grant to
show up during lunch.
Joshua Gropp ran into a brick wall.
that little bit of help on those
homework assignments. All of these
put together helped us through public
school.
And as I begin to bring my speech
Josh-Jorritsma was called Flipper by
Mr. Hooftman at the soccer
tournament. Joel Kellington wore a
suit and suspenders to his class
picture.
At the soccer tournament Mark
Kroll made a beautiful assist to help
Wingham score its only goal. Matt
Cameron was overcome with the
excitement of the two pitch
tournament and Matt McLellan
pitched so well.
In Grade 2 Chris Mason was called
Christmas by his teacher and Mike
Comeau just recently joined us.
Justin Ruttan finally brought the
public speaking trophy back to
Brussels. I3etty Bodfield quietly
observes the rest of us - we wonder
what she thinks?
This year on our field trip
to a close, I'd like to say that even as
we ready to leave Grey and head for
high school, I'm sure that we will all
remember Grey, as our first little
nublic school.
Stephanie Patch and Patricia Wilbee
decided to eat some of the gum bed at
Oil Springs. Amy Ross always used
to flap her wings like a bird and
Sarah Seeds came on the wrong day
of kindergarten.
Mrs. Perrie made Amanda Van
Beek take her makeup off, and who
could even forget Matt Smith in those
Mickey Mouse ears at the spring
concert.
I hope you've enjoyed some of our
memories of Grade 8.
Our years at this school will never
be forgotten, and as we prepare to
start at a new school somewhere,
none of us will ever forget our
friends, teachers and all the help our
parents have given us, our dream
catchers. Thank you.
