LAWN MOWING
The appearance and health of your lawn is maintained by mowing
your lawn at the proper height. A common, very serious error is to
mow lawns too short!
A lawn should always be mowed at least 5 to 6 cm (2 to 21/2 inches)
above the ground. Mowing height should be increased during the
heat of the summer. Grasses need greater length to survive the
summer heat and drought.
The lawn should always be mowed frequently so that a small clipping
is taken from the grass plant. Never remove more than 1/2 of the total
grass blade when mowing. Removing too much of the blade length at
one time stresses the grass and weakens your lawn.
Mower blades should be kept razor sharp. The sharp cut will make a
clean wound that will heal quickly, look tidy and resist disease attack.
It may be necessary to have mower blades sharpened 3 times yearly.

Parish hears of sacrifice
Teresa Baan greeted worshippers
at Duff's United Church June 30,
Rev. Randy Banks' last Sunday.
The choir sang 'Friends' a Ron
Klusmeier tune. Rev. Banks called
the young worshippers forward and
talked to them about sacrifice. He
gave them a few examples like a
sacrifice fly in baseball and told a
little story about a little girl who
had a kitten that she loved so much,
but her mother had a hard time
breathing and it was discovered she
was allergic to cat hair. The little
girl told her mother that she loved
her little kitten but she loved her
mother even more and gave the
kitten away. She learned something
about love and how sometimes we
have to give up something we
really like for the sake of others'
happiness. It was the kind of love

that Jesus had for us.
Rev. Banks talked about the
sacrifice that Jacob was to place on
the altar — his own son Isaac. God
does make demands on us so that
we may effectively serve his
Kingdom. He ended his sermon by
saying, "God will provide - know
it, believe it and live it."
Before the close of the service
Rev. Banks thanked the
congregation and said farewell. He
told them to help their new minister
and his family to feel welcome in
Lhe community and to be
supportive to his ministry here in
Walton.
Rev. Banks leaves July 1 for his
new home in Castleton, Ont.
Before he left, the choir led the
congregation in singing A Parting
Blessing.

It was a busy two days for the
staff and students at Walton P.S.
Monday brought part of the talent
show with piano solos by Katie
Williamson, Kelsey Bennewies,
Ben Bachert, Jessica Lubber, Sarah
McDonald, and Tyler Elligsen,
being performed.
There was a baton solo by
Mandy Mitchell and Ricky Pethick
played the guitar. Sarah McDonald
and Lindsay McNichol did some
step dancing and family duet and
guitar accompaniment was
performed by the DeWits. Whitney
Kramer did a 'Lipsynch' solo.
An assembly was held and Carrie
Leonhardt won the Shirley Lyon
award for excellence in language
arts. Each teacher and secretary
Linda Wilson were presented with
the Directors recognition award by
Helen Crocker.
Perfect attendance awards were
handed out to Tina Smith (Grade
4), Robert Johnston (Grade 3),
Mitchell Blake (Grade 2) and
Steven McNichol (Grade 1), Laura
Bowers, Keiryn Jacobs, Andrew
VanVliet and David Pethick
(kindergarten).
The Grade is celebrated Canada
Day having a Scavenger Hunt
using the clues that spelled
TREAT. Their treat was a Canada
Flag cake decorated with straw-
berries and whipped cream.
The Grade 2 and 3s held a paper
airplane flying contest. They made
super sonic jets, dart and helicopter
planes as well. By the end of the
day they knew how to fold paper.
In talking with the Mrs. Crocker
and teachers they all said that the
year flew by and that it had been a
great year. They wanted to thank
the community and volunteers for
their wonderful support of the
school.
Before I finish with the Walton
School News I wanted to make
known a poem that was written by
Mrs. Vandendool who is quickly
becoming famous for her poems
me how she can just make up a
poem or a song at any moment.
So here is her goodbye song for
the Grade 4s who will be moving
on next fall.
It's time for us to leave you now,
we're just too old to stay,
But don't you ever think for once,
That we'll forget - No Way.
Walton School will always have
'a place within our heart,
It's the school where we began,
it's where we made our start!
So look out SPS, we're headed
right your way,
We won't be any trouble, and we
won't get in the way.
We'll try.our best to do our best!
Well follow the golden rule
Cause that's the kind of thing we
learned at Walton Public School.
We gladly came each day to

We tried our best to be the best
each and every turn,
We always found a caring hand
to help us all along,
And it is to these special folk,
we dedicate this song.
So look out SPS, we're headed
right away.
We won't be any trouble and we
won't get in your way.
We'll try our best to do our best.
We'll follow the golden rule,
cause that's the kind of thing we

She also wrote a poem that
included something about each
student in her Grade 4 class. Maybe
someday you can say, 'We knew
her when ...'
