ONTARIO DRUG BENEFITS
IMPORTANT News for Seniors and
People Receiving Social Assistance
Because the federal government has reduced transfer
payments for Ontario's health and social services by
$2.1 billion over the next two years, the Ontario government
must act now to preserve its drug programs.
Starting July 15, Ontario Drug Benefit recipients will contribute
a small amount toward their prescription costs. Ontario is the
last province to introduce co-payments.
How much you pay depends on your income. You will pay up
to $2 per prescription if you are:
• single, 65 or over, with a net income of
less than $16,018 per year
• a couple, both over 65, with a combined
net income of less than $24,175 per year
• living in a nursing home, home for the aged
or home for special care
• receiving welfare or family benefits
• receiving home care
You're 65 and your income is higher than the above? Then
you pay the first $100 of your drug costs each year. After
that, you'll pay only the ODB dispensing fee of up to $6.11
per prescription.
You have extra health insurance from a private company?
Call your company. It may cover co-payment costs.
Call the Ministry of Health at 1-888-405-0405 if you have
more questions. Or look for information sheets at your
pharmacy.

Acre T and Palmerston met in
Brussels for their second soccer
match-up of the season. Although
both teams put forth a strong effort,
Palmerston defeated Acre T by a
score of 6-0.
The June 27 game was played by
an optimistic Acre T team. No
goals were sent into the Palmerston
net, but their keeper was kept busy.
Palmerston's scoring started early
in the first half, when their offense
managed to squeeze by Acre T's
defense and score the game's first
goal. A direct kick for Palmerston
within the 18-yard box allowed
their second goal. Keeper, Corey
Campbell, had no chance.
Acre Ts centre half back, Teresa
Albers, and their full back, Michael
Albers were able to keep the ball
out of Acre Ts zone for most of the
remainder of the first half. Albers'
accurate passes to their forwards
gave Acre T more opportunities to
score, but the passes between the
forwards were intercepted by the
Palmerston defense.
Later in the first half, a kick by
Palmerston's halfback, escaped
Acre T's defense. Palmerston's
forward slipped the ball by keeper
Corey Campbell. At the end of the
first half the score was 3-0.
In the second half, keeper Corey
Campbell was replaced by Krissy
Dilworth and sent to inside
forward, to try and lead Acre T to
some scoring. Forwards Shawn
Terpstra, Mike Cooper, Campbell
and Daryl Houston played an
aggressive second half. Palmerston,
with difficulty carried the ball
through the Acre T defense and
scored on keeper Dilworth.
A strong attack by Acre T's
Amanda Bank and Teresa Albers
aided their forwards in several
scoring chances. Shots on net by
Houston, Campbell and Terpstra
were saved by Palmerston's keeper.
Before the second half was over,
Palmerston sneaked two more goals
past keeper Dilworth, making the
• final score 6-0. Acre T's next game
will be played against Brussels 1
on Thursday, July 4.
A special thanks from Acre T's
team to the six U-15 players who
replaced their absent players, and
helped to make their team
complete.

lose to
Newton
Brussels B Bantam team dropped
a 5-1 game at Newton. The first
half was scoreless.
Newton opened the scoring with
a shot from the side. Brussels' Scott
Clarkson drew a penalty in the area
and on the penalty, shot keeper Phil
Graber stopped the low grounder.
Newton kept pressing and
worked the corners well with good
passes and went ahead by another
goal.
Brussels' new addition Mathew
Aldaz led the attack. He scored on
a well executed chip shot over the
Newton keeper.
Brussels was not able to
capitalize on the other attacks. The
forwards passed well in front of the
net, but when Terry Nichol was
open he failed to score.
On the counter-attack Newton's
long passes were foiled by the
Brussels' fullbacks, who out-
hustled their strikers for the ball.
Andrew Grant made an especially
fine play beating his man for the
ball.
Newton continued to be deadly in
the corner crosses. In the last play
of the game Newton scored their
fifth goal.
In Ontario, between 1985-1990,
nearly 600 persons over 65 died
each year as a direct or indirect
result of falling.
