STUDENTS OF B.P.S.
"Yesterday is for remembering,
Tomorrow is for dreaming,
but Today is for enjoying
every minute that it's here."
I wish to thank all the students of Brussels Public School for
your songs and poems, visits and chats, and cards and hugs
that you gave me. You'll never know how much you mean to
me. I will miss you.
I wish for you a safe summer, good luck in your studies, and a
happy life. Always set a good example for everyone you work
and live with. I'll be looking for you In the future.
May you always keep a poem in your pocket, and a song in
your heart.
Thanks for the memories. You're the best!
MRS. "C"OUSINS
- HATS OFF! TO B.P.S. STAFF
BY EMILY COUSINS
What's so great about retiring? Let me count the ways.
On June 21 the Staff of Brussels Public School, together with
their spouses, honoured me (Emily Cousins) at a retirement
party held at the Seaforth Golf Course. It was "A Night to
Remember", not unlike the sinking of the Titanic. However, the
only thing that went down was a great time had by all.
Attending with me were husband George, son Tim, daughter-
in-law Tracey, and daughter Liura; sister Audrey and Rodney
Helwig of Neustadt, brother Lewis Metzger of Barrie, and Luella
Mitchell, a long-time friend in Brussels.
In loving memory of my long-wearing raccoon hat, the
teachers put on a "head-rendering" skit which "cap"-tivated
everyone there.
Dave Kemp, the principal and "head hauncho", gave the
address, in terse verse, "headlining" the life and times of my
career. Thanks for the de-composition and exposé, Dave.
The teachers presented me with an engraved pen holder and a
model replica of an old-fashioned disk complete with "student".
I thanked the staff in a farewell speech.
I would also like to thank the staff for making me feel so good
and important my last days of school: for bringing your classes
to visit me with performances, cards, and hugs; for laughing at
my jokes, letting me re-live my childhood and career, and eating
my squares.
For all of the above ways, and more, I salute: Dave and
Audrey Kemp, Joan and Dave Perrie, Betty and Bob
Beuttenmiller, Bill and Katie Teal!, Rudy Hooftman and Iny, Jim
and Isabel! Prior, Karen and Fred Uhler, Joan and Phil Clark,
Lois Anonech and Jim, Mary and Maurice Douma, Denise and
Bill Tedesco, Debbie and Kevin Bennewies, and Dale and Sam
Wan less.
There have been times
when you didn't have any time,
and yet, you took the time.
There have been times
when you had enough cares of your own,
and yet, you cared.
There have been times
when you had given all you had to give,
and yet, you kept on giving.
Thanks, guys. "Emmy Lou"

A DEDICATION CARD OF THANKS
I would like to thank my family and friends for all of their help
and support during my busy years of teaching.
Thank you George, Laura, Tim and Tracey, for attending my
retirement party and for the most gorgeous basket of flowers
and spoken kind words.
A BIG thank you as well, to everyone for your lovely cards,
gifts and best wishes which you have so graciously extended to
me on the occasion of my retirement.
Thank you and God Bless.
It has been a fulfilling 34 years here at Brussels Public School
and I thank you for the privilege of working with you and your
children. I hope I even taught some of you something.
In return, I want to share a poem with you, given to me by my
mother, (inside a birthday card in 1981) who wrote, "I cannot
help putting a 'verse' in here". I know now, that mom was
always preparing me for the time when she would no longer be
around. So, I now dedicate it to her, my inspiration, and as I,
too, 'cannot help putting a verse in here', I pass it on to you:
"On life's busy thoroughfares,
We meet with angels unawares.
So, Father, make us kind and wise,
So we may always recognize -
The blessings that are ours to take,
The friendships that are ours to make;
If we but open our hearts' door wide,
To let the sunshine of love inside."
Thanks, mom, for being my special angel. I miss you, Emily.
And thanks, everyone, for giving me the best, this side of
heaven.
