Milestone
Several charter members were on hand when Walton WI celebrated its 40th anniversary last
week. From left: Berva Watson, Mary Humprhies, Alberta Stevens, Leona McDonald,
Margaret Craig and FWIO President Margaret Harris.
Alice and Allan Searle greeted
worshippers at Duff's United
Church on June 23.
The musical trio of Phyllis
Mitchell, Glenda Carter and
Margery Huether played some
oldies but goodies for everyone
before the service started. Geoffrey
Banks lit the Christ Candle and
then Jennifer McClure came to the
microphone and on behalf of the
Sunday School kids, dedicated a
song that she and Sarah McDonald,
Carrie Leonhardt, Brittany Holmes
(Duffs Angels) were about to sing
to Rev. Randy Banks. Their song
was called Just Like Salt.
After the Prayer of Approach and
announcements the Sunday School
promotions took place. Sunday
School teachers, Gloria Wilbee,
Heidi McClure, Barb Durrell,
Shannon Gibbons, and Brad
Finlayson were presented with
roses by Sunday School
Superintendent Patty Banks and
Sunday School students for their
dedication and faithful commitment
to teaching. (Ang Marcuccio and
Corrine Leonhardt taught as well
but weren't able to make the
presentation).
Each teacher then called up their
students and presented them with a
'Whole People of God' certificate.
Gloria Wilbee handed out the seals.
Darrell McClure on behalf of the
Sunday School kids, presented
Rev. Banks with a piece of wood
that had a scripture verse burned
into it along with all the kids'
names as well. He thanked them
and said he hoped that they would
all continue on in the church.
The choir sang, Flowers will
Bloom in the Desert.
The reception of a new member
then took place as Teresa Baan was
received into Duffs United Church
congregation.
Rev. Banks's sermon was called,
"Abraham and Sarah: The Luster
Fades."
After the service, the
congregation went downstairs for a
potluck lunch. Then Lavern and
Marion Godkin, on behalf of the
board and congregation, presented
Rev. Banks with a beautiful
bookshelf and a lamp for his going
away gift.
Neil McGavin did a little review
of Rev. Banks's past four years here
and mixed with a few jokes that
only Neil can deliver so well, said
goodbye and wished him well in
his ministry at Grafton.
