HALL OPENED AT CRANBROOK History was recorded at the hamlet of Cranbrook last Thursday night when its $22,000 Grey Township community hall was officially opened. Following seven months of voluntary labor, the populace of this farming community saw the realization of their dreams when L. E. Cardiff, MP, for North Huron, officially opened the centre. Two-Storey Building Modern in every respect, this two-storey building has been set aside as a place of entertainment for both young and old. It was built as a community project. Formerly the old township hall, the building was moved to the present site, torn down and renovated. Sparked by a live-wire board of directors under the supervision of Lloyd Michel, the whole community responded to the call, with 62 men on the job the first day, and 20 from May 24 on working on the project until completion. Even the women of this cross- section centre south of the Village of Brussels gave of their time in the inside renovation to give the hall a "comfy" atmosphere. A newly- formed Women's Institute, of Cranbrook, contributed greatly by giving of its funds and helped generously with the Township of Grey donating $2,000 to the cause and the possibility of a provincial grant of 25 per cent of the cost, and freewill contributions, the centre has been deemed a decided success. Several Speakers Speakers at the official opening included Reeve John McNabb, of Grey Twp.; Mayor Dr. E. A. McMaster, Seaforth; A. Y. McLean, MP for Huron Perth; Lloyd Michel, Cranbrook; Gordon Bennett, agricultural representative for Huron; William Empey, health inspector for Huron County; L. E. Cardiff, MP North Huron; John Strong, Wingham. Highlight of the evening's program was the cupidors chorus of the Listowel Presbyterian Church, who made a decided hit before a capacity audience of 300 people thronging the hall auditorium. With the nomination of an entertainment committee, monthly concerts are being arranged with McMaster night set for Jan. 12. The new centre will serve the communities of Walton, Molesworth, and Cranbrook.
