Brussels Livestock report
Cow prices continue upward trend, top $61
The market at Brussels. Livestock
for the week ending June 21 was:
fed cattle, 826; cows, 206; veal
calves, 254; lambs, 113; and
stockers, 1,284.
The fed steers and heifers at
Brussels Livestock sold $1 higher
with cows selling $2 - $3 higher.
On Thursday veal and lambs sold
steady. Friday stockers sold on an
active steady trade.
There were 428 steers on offer
selling from $80 to $86 to the high
of $95. Thirty-five steers consigned
by Cunningham Farms, Lucan,
averaging 1,336 lbs. sold for an
average of $86.20 with sales to
$90. Thirty-six steers consigned by
Ed McCann, Dashwood, averaging
1,524 lbs. sold for an average of
$82.07 with sales to $89.50.
Thirteen steers consigned by
Schmidt Brook Farms Inc.,
Woodstock, averaging 1,449 lbs.
sold for an average of $82.09 with
sales to $89.25. Fifteen steers
consigned by Woodham Farms,
Woodham, averaging 1,188 lbs.

Under an amendment to the
Game and Fish Act, anglers who
fish anywhere in Ontario are
prohibited from selling the spawn
of fish caught. It is also illegal for
anyone, including baitfish dealers,
to purchase spawn from anglers.
The amendment to Section 72,
which took effect Jan. 1 states that:

Saturday afternoon Embro scored
two in the fifth for a 4-1
elimination of the Tigers. Uhrig
took the loss giving up eight hits
while striking out nine. Conley
batted two for three including a
second inning lead off homerun.
The Tigers came close in the
seventh with the tying run at the
plate and none out but were unable
to score.
Last Wednesday the Tigers
arrived home from Lieury with two
points in a rain shortened contest.
The win over the Jets gives
Brussels an eight win - one tie
record in league action.
Friday night in Goderich the
Huron County Fastball League All-
Stars will meet the Grizzlies in
game one of a home and home all-
star game. The Grizzlies are an all-
star team comprised of the best
players from the Goderich
Industrial League.

averaging 1,103 lbs. sold for an

regulations, no person shall sell,
offer for sale, purchase, barter,
culture or be concerned in the sale,
purchase, barter or culture of fish
other than species designated in the
regulation."
Fish spawn can only be sold by a
licensed aquaculturist. Daft fish
dealers can purchase spawn from
licensed aquaculturists for resale to
anglers.
It was turnabout fair play when
Blyth and Belgrave PeeWee boys
played two games recently.
On June 19, Belgrave hosted
Blyth and sent their visitors home
down 16-10. Blyth did it all in the
first and last innings, scoring three,
then seven respectively.
Belgrave was consistent in the
first three innings, then enjoyed a
hit parade in the fourth and fifth to
lunge ahead. Scoring were Curtis
Knight, two; Craig Marks, three;

There were 35 bulls on offer
selling from $45 to $58 to the high
of $69.50. One Gold bull consigned
by John Sinke, Atwood, weighing
1,920 lbs. sold for $69.50. One
Black bull consigned by Gordon
Laver Sr., Tara, weighing 1,855
lbs. sold for $67.50.
There were 229 veal on offer
selling - Holstein, $85 to $100;
Justin Campbell, three; Jim
McCracken, two; Kevin Hopf, two;
Myron Hussey, Jason Fear, Adam
Potter and Rick Buchanan.
The next day, Blyth were the
hosts and they edged Belgrave by a
score of 12-11.
Scoring for Belgrave were
Knight, McCracken, Campbell,
with three, Hopf with two, Marks
with two, Hussey and Buchanan.
The next game will be June 27 in
Seaforth at 8 p.m.
