TRACK AND FIELD
Blyth PS track and field day was
on May 21. We were lucky with the
weather, it was not too hot and not
too cold. All the students were
eager to participate.
There were eight divisions and at
the end of the day one champion
was picked from each division:
midget girl, Jenna Taylor; midget
boys, Cole Stewart; junior girls,
Jamie Lewis; junior boys, Devin
Shannon; intermediate girls, Ashley
Taylor; intermediate boys, Brian
Sherred; senior girls, Shanda
Loder; senior boys, Darrell
McDougall.
Aside from all this a number of
school records were broken.
Midget girls, Jenna Taylor ran
the 200 metre race in 35.8 seconds.
Charlene Bromley triple jumped
7.32 metres. Junior girls Jenny
Ritchie threw the softball 40.50
metres. Intermediate girls Ashley
Taylor broke two school records.
She finished the 800m race in
2:57.18 and jumped 1.32 metres in
high jump.
Senior girls Shanda Loder ran the
800m race in 3:05.13. Midget boys
Cole Stewart jumped 1.30m in high
jump and threw 45.06m setting a
new record in softball throw. Justin
Peters jumped 7.69m in triple
jump, and senior boys Darrell
McDougall tied a record in triple
jump, jumping 10m.
The first and second place
winners from each event advanced
to Seaforth to compete against
other schools. Not everyone won a
ribbon, but everyone had fun.
BUSY DAYS IN GRADE 3/4
By Joy Cullen
The Grade 3/4s are quite busy
these days and have a lot to report.
In Math the Grade 3s have just
finished their unit on multiplication
and are starting on geometry. While
the Grade 3s are doing Math with
Miss Jewitt, the Grade 4s are taking
Math with Mrs. Cronin. They are
now studying fractions. Math is
made fun by having a game using
their Math knowledge after work is
done.
Spelling is becoming a challenge
with the next test containing a
hundred words. Studying words has
become increasingly harder
because of this.
In science the students are
studying Creepy Crawlies such as
insects and spiders. Right now they
have a centipede staying in their
classroom. They have a nature table
in their room on which they place
interesting natural specimens. They
have also been growing plants
which they have recently
transplanted out of doors. Some of
the plants which they have
transplanted are sunflowers,
cockscombe, Mexican firebush,
bachelor buttons, nasturtiums,
helichrysum and pansies.
For language the children are
doing a chapter study on
Charlotte's Web and reading James
and the Giant Peach. They are also
