The Belgrave Mite girls hit the
road last week, taking on two com-
petitors and coming out on top.
The trip to Wallace was well
worth it as the girls grabbed the
lead early and never relinquished it.
Nicole Meier strode to the mound
in the bottom of the first, already
backed up by a seven-run margin
earned by her teammates. Holding
Wallace to three runs, she struck
out two.
Meier began the second with her
team ahead 14-3, but the arm
failed. With only one strike out,
Meier had watched seven oppo-
nents cross the plate.
Emily Elston came on in relief.
The Belgrave bats stayed active
in the third and fourth, adding
seven for a 21-10 score.
Pitchers Kristen Palmer and
Cook had the Wallace squad score-
less in their final at-bats.
Palmer had assistance from
Michelle Cook, who made two outs
at first.
Cook notched a grand slam in the
first while Nicole Procter blasted a
home run in the third.
The entire team played a good
game.
Strong efforts on the pitching
It was definitely a one-sided bat-
tle when Clinton Mites came to
Blyth, June 17.
On the backs of three home runs,
belted by Darcey Cook, Brittany
Peters and Josh Albrechtas, the
mound allowed the girls to double
their opponents for another away-
from-home victory, June 13.
When they took to the field in the
first inning in Fordwich, they came
out hitting, pushing six across the
plate.
Three strikeouts }-,y pitchCr Proc-
ter helped keep the home ti-,am off
the board. Belgrave addc4 another
seven in the second only to watch
Fordwich fight back with seven of
their own.
On the rubber for the second,
Palmer struck out two.
Belgrave captured a commanding
lead through two and a half, jump-
ing to a 20-7 lead.
With three strikeouts to her cred-
it, Cook allowed only three Ford-
wich players home in the third
inning.
Cook and Procter added some
hitting power to the attack as each
blasted a home run, Procter's a
grand slam.
Ronna Shaw and Bridget
Kellington battled bright sun to
make some good defensive plays
and excellent effort on pop flies.
The final tally of the match up
was 20-10 for Belgrave.
houseleague squad blasted the visi-
tors 33-5.
Cook's defensive ability also
showed through on an excellent
pop fly catch.
Everyone played well.

• Brussels Pre-Mites lose to Belgrave
Wednesday the Tigers are in
Lieury to meet the Jets, then Friday
they meet the Thamesford Thunder
in game one of the Seaforth
tournament.
A last inning blowout, put the
Brussels Pre-Mites baseball team
well behind their hosting Belgrave
opponents June 11.
The first inning ended in a 4-4
tie, then Belgrave jumped ahead
by seven in the second, while shut-
ting down the visitors. With a
scoreless third inning, it still didn't
look too bad, espcially after Brus-
sels narrowed the Belgrave edge
with two fourth inning runs. But a
solid home half, resulting in six
more runs, gave the hosts a 17-6
finish.
