players this year. The first four
games have all been away with the
first home game yet to come on
June 27.
Despite being on foreign soil,
these first games have been very
favourable. The opener against
Clinton May 16 saw a 2-0 win on
goals by Darwin Buffinga and Matt
Anderson.

first loss
It was a tough first loss of the
season for the Blyth Mites when
Colborne #1 came to town, June
10.
Jamie Ross pitched a good two
innings before being grounded by a
fastball to the ankle. The team
quickly pulled together as Justin
Peters took the mound.
Colborne was belting the ball
around, taking a 7-0 lead to the
third.
Blyth was able to put one on the
board when Darcey Cook crossed
the plate. They added two more in
the fourth, including a homerun by
Peters, however, Colborne had
jumped to an 11-3 lead.
With Ryan McClinchey on the
hill in the fifth, Colborne pushed
four more across the plate. Blyth's
offense was unable to form an
attack. The final score was 15-3.
In two earlier games, Blyth had
topped Tuckersmith 24-6, and
taken Hullett 22-7.

Goderich where a 1-1 tie, with the
goal again by Anderson, resulting
from a long mid-field pass from
Sarah Naylor.
The next week, again back in
Clinton, saw a 9-1 victory with six
goals by Anderson, two by Teague
Onn, and one by Sabrina B6ffinga.
Lastly, on June 6, they travelled
to Lucknow, where they sustained
their first loss at 2-0.
Coach David Onn says, "We
have a very strong defensive squad
and mid-field players, with a
promising set of younger forwards
which should develop over the
season. Come out and catch a game
when we move to the new field
behind the arena."

scoring affair June 3 with Belgrave
coming on the high end of the 17-

Curtis Knight, Justin Campbell,
Kevin Hopf and Jason Fear led the
Belgrave attack, scoring three runs
each. Additional runs were scored
by Jimmy McCracken (two),

Tim Buchanan.
After Belgrave took off to an
early 5-0 lead, Brussels made the
game interesting by scoring all
their runs in the final three innings.
Mike Walker, Brian Oldfield and
Stephen Todd scored a pair of runs
each, with singles going to Rob
McKercher, Matt McCall, Nathan
Garland, Joshua Gropp, Jason
Armstrong, Philip Leger, Tim

Last Tuesday, the Brussels boys
travelled to Ethel where the two
teams played to an exciting 8-8
score.
Brussels took an early four-run
lead in their first at-bat, an inning
highlighted by a bases-loaded triple
by Nathan Garland.
After Ethel responded in the
bottom half of the inning with two
runs of their own, there was no
further scoring until the bottom of
the third. In that inning, Ethel
chipped away at Brussels' lead,
scoring two runs and tying the
game at 4-4.
In the fourth inning Brussels
retook the lead, scoring three runs.
Ethel responded with two more and
closed the gap to 7-6.
In the final inning, Brussels
scored one more, but their
opponents were not to be denied.
Joe Pearson and Chad Fischer
crossed the plate and the game
ended in an 8-8 tie.
Ethel runs were scored by Joe
Pearson (three), Chad Fischer
(three), Rob Kerr and Marten
Gorter. Kerr put in an impressive
performance on the mound.
Brussels runs were scored by
Brian Oldfield (two), Matt McCall
(two), Tim Harrison, Matthew
Elliott, Mike Walker and Jason
Armstrong. Oldfield, Mark Kroll
and Joshua Gropp split the pitching
duties.
