Institute studies
history of trees
The Auburn Women's Institute
meeting was held at the Commun-
ity Hall on Thursday, May 30 with
15 members and two children
present.
President Tena Empey chaired
the meeting and read a poem.
Marjorie McDougall was pianist
for the opening.
Kay Lapp, convenor of Agricul-
ture and Canadian Industries, read
an interesting history of many
different trees.
Ell Lapp spoke on different kinds
of wood and showed samples. His
hobby is woodworking and he
makes a lot of lovely articles. He
had some bowls to show. Tena
thanked him and all showed their
appreciation.
Evelyn Flett read the minutes and
Rhonda Bruxer gave the treasurer's
report. Reports of the District
Knox United diplomas were
presented to the following members
of the Sunday School at a special
service held at Camp Menesetung
on Sunday: first year diploma,
Michael McDowell, Shawna Popp,
Lisa Carter; Second year seal,
Stephanie Archambault, Thomas
Lecomte, Tony Bean; third year
seal, Katie McClinchey, Adam
Andrews; fourth year seal, Erika
Andrews, Lauren Lecomte; fifth
year seal, Brett Bean, Charlotte
Members of the Wingham OPP
are investigating a fatal motor
vehicle accident which occurred
May 31 at approximately
10:20 p.m. in the "B-Line" in
Turnberry Twp., about five
kilometres north-east of Wingham.
Roger Wormington, age 32, of
RR 1, Wingham was westbound,
riding a 1986 Harley Davidson
motorcycle, on the B-Line
approaching Sideroad 15 to
Annual held at St. Helens were
given by Jean Plaetzer and Evelyn
Flett.
Plans were made for the Lions
Club Ladies Night.
The June meeting is to be a trip
to the Erland Lee Homestead on
June 20 instead of the regular
meeting. Tena gave a reading.
It is being planned to go to a
theatre either in July or August.
Mildred Lawlor gave the card
report.
Knitted blocks had been brought
in. The next ones are to be made
six or seven inches square.
Roll call was answered by "Name
a grain and how it is used and bring
a sample". The programs for 1996-
97 were given out.
Grace was sung and the hostesses
served a lunch and a social half
hour enjoyed.

Bibles were given to Tony Bean,
Thomas Lecomte, Johnathan
McDowell, Roman Sturzenegger
and Katie McClinchey.
Perfect attendance certificates
were given to: Michael McDowell,
Johnathan McDowell, Katie
McClinchey, Ryan McClinchey,
Erica Andrews, Charlotte Worsell
and Becky Archambault.
Turnberry Twp. As he approach the
intersection, his vehicle came in
contact with a corn planter that was
being towed eastbound by Henry
Beyersbergen, age 44, of Gorrie.
Wormington was transported to
Wingham and District Hospital by
ambulance where he died from
injuries sustained in the accident.
The Ram Bike Club from
Wingham has-set up a trust fund for
his family at the Laurentian Bank
in Wingham.
The Huron West District
Women's Institute Annual was held
at St. Helens' Hall on Monday,
May 27 with 51 in attendance. The
tables were decorated with flowers,
and a plant at each sitting for
everyone to take home afterwards.
Registration was at 9:30 a.m. St.
Helen's W.I. welcomed all.
Marjorie Anderson gave a reading.
Minutes were given by Jean
Nethery. Roll call of voting
delegates was taken. Evelyn Flett
and Jean Plaetzer were the ones
from Auburn.
There was entertainment from
Dungannon Branch. A hilarious
skit was put on called "Fred and
Mabel on their Honeymoon". The
actors were Peg Purdon and Ruth
Freeland.
The speakers were Don Silts and
Jennifer DeJong of Stratford, who
had spent a work week of

MBA program
The Huron County Board of Edu-
cation is in the process of develop-
ing a Queen's University Executive
MBA program via video conferenc-
ing.
The board is trying to strike a
deal with the Queen's School of
Business to provide access to the
highly-reputed program for local
consumption. Anyone interested in
the program should contact Direc-
tor of Education Paul Carroll or
Human Resources Administrator
Jeanne Dionne immediately as the
application deadline is imminent.

think of how thankful they are to
live in Canada. There was a reading
"Future of Every Day".
Grace was sung. A delicious
salad smorgasbord was then
enjoyed.
The baking and craft sale was
looked after by the Auburn Branch.
The afternoon session began with
the singing of the Maple Leaf
Forever. There were greetings by
the area president. The roll call of
all branches was taken and the
highlights of the year's activities
given.
The president's remarks were
given by Marjorie Anderson.
Entertainment was by St. Helens.
Lovely Scottish songs were sung.
Resolutions were given by Edith
Cooper and reports by Mabel
Jacklin. Lois Elliott gave a talk on
curators. Mary Hunter, program co-
ordinator, gave her report. New
business was discussed. Members
are invited to the District Annual at
Londesboro for 1997.
Marjorie Anderson read a poem
"Things That are Beautiful". The
singing of The Queen closed a very
interesting day.
