Brussels squads confront rivals in first game
The two Brussels Bantam soccer
teams met for their first North Perth
Soccer League game on May 23.
The two teams which practise
together at Grey Central have
developed a strong rivalry. The
opening game was an intense
contest with the Brussels B team
prevailing over Brussels Acre T
with the final score 3 to 2.
The Brussels B team which was

Murray Pipe's five RBI game led
the Tigers to an 11-3 wirw against
the Zurich Panthers Sunday night
in Brussels. Pipe batted three for
four, including a fourth inning
homerun, while Doug Conley was
three for three and Todd Uhrig two

Zurich held an early three run
lead before the Tigers rallied with
10 runs in their last two at bats.

Belgrave PeeWee Boys played a
hit parade when they hosted
Seaforth on May 27 and trounced
them by an overpowering 23-8.
Seaforth appeared to be off to a
good start with a four run first
inning, but Belgrave set the tone
scoring seven of their own.
The second inning was worse as
the home team shut them down,
then came back in their half to tag
on another eight. Seaforth managed
to come alive again with four in the
third, only to have Belgrave answer
with nine. Able to hold the visitors

On Tuesday, May 28 the
Brussels PeeWee boys opened their
season with a disappointing 13 - 1
loss at home to Gowanstown. The
home side played well, but the
early-season jitters were evident.
Joshua Gropp scored the lone
Brussels run after hitting a triple
scoring. Acre T then tied the game.
At half time the teams were tied
at 2-2. In the final minutes Terry
Brown scored the goal which
proved to be the winner. Kirk
Baillie and Terry Brown led the
Brussels B team. Josh Beuermann
made his debut in goal and turned
in a strong performance. Richard
Terpstra led the Acre T attack with
one goal. Michael Albers scored

the Brewers. Uhrig pitched a five
hit, 15 strikeout game while

win against the Rangers. Brett
Clarkson batted three for four with

ry was clearly in the hands of the
Belgrave boys, who finished off the
inning basically for the fun of it,
though they did have eight more
cross the plate.
Coming home for Belgrave were:
Kevin Hopf, four; Jason Fear, two;
Craig Marks, three; Myron Hussey,
three; Curtis Knight, three; Tim
Robinson, two; Justin Campbell,
three; Ricky Buchannan, three; Jim
McCracken, three; Travis Camp-

the other goal.
On May 30 both Brussels teams
went down to defeat. Brussels Acre
T was defeated by Newton 10-0.
Brussels B team hosted the
undefeated Palmerston team. Both
teams had white uniforms and the
players and officials had difficulty
sorting it all out.
Brussels' Terry Brown opened
the scoring. Palmerston then tied
the game. Again Brussels went
ahead on Adam Can's goal. Half
time came, with the Palmerston
team ahead by one goal.
Terry Brown was fouled in the
penalty area. His penalty kick was
a high shot which went over the
Palmerston keeper into the net. The
game was tied again. Palmerston's
Scott Sinclair broke free and
headed for the goal.
In a desperate attempt to stop
him Brussels Scott Clarkson was
called for a foul in the penalty area.
Philip Graber, Brussels' keeper
made a valiant effort to stop the
Palmerston penalty kick, but the
ball rolled into the net.
Palmerston scored again and
Brussels made an intense effort to
get the equalizer. Adam Carr led
the attack. On a nicely executed
corner kick, he headed the ball, but
his attempt just missed the top of
the net. Brussels maintained the
pressure and Kirk Baillie broke
through, but missed on a low shot.
The Palmerston keeper played an
outstanding game and foiled the
many booming shots which
Brussels sent in on the goal.
Late in the game Palmerston
scored another goal which put the
game out of reach. The final score
was 5-3 for Palmerston.
