JOHN GIBSON Weed Inspector, County of Huron NOTICE RE: SPOT SPRAYING OF WEEDS This notice is to advise residents of the County of Huron that SPOT SPRAYING OF WEEDS in rural areas will commence on June 10, 1996, for a period of approximately 12 to 14 weeks. Herbicides to be used are: ESTAPROP, Registration No. 14803; AMITROL T, Registration No. 16548; and DIPHENOPROP, Registration No. 15707. To be controlled are noxious weeds as per the Provincial Weed Control Act. This-notice complies with Section 68(2) of Regulation 914 under the Pesticides Act. Brussels squads confront rivals in first game The two Brussels Bantam soccer teams met for their first North Perth Soccer League game on May 23. The two teams which practise together at Grey Central have developed a strong rivalry. The opening game was an intense contest with the Brussels B team prevailing over Brussels Acre T with the final score 3 to 2. The Brussels B team which was short several players, opened the The Brussels Tigers hold a 3 win - 1 tie record in defence of their Huron County Fastball Champion- ship. Murray Pipe's five RBI game led the Tigers to an 11-3 wirw against the Zurich Panthers Sunday night in Brussels. Pipe batted three for four, including a fourth inning homerun, while Doug Conley was three for three and Todd Uhrig two for two. Zurich held an early three run lead before the Tigers rallied with 10 runs in their last two at bats. Conley pitched the win striking out five Panthers. Tuesday night in Walton Pipe singled home Doug Shaw in the Belgrave PeeWee Boys played a hit parade when they hosted Seaforth on May 27 and trounced them by an overpowering 23-8. Seaforth appeared to be off to a good start with a four run first inning, but Belgrave set the tone scoring seven of their own. The second inning was worse as the home team shut them down, then came back in their half to tag on another eight. Seaforth managed to come alive again with four in the third, only to have Belgrave answer with nine. Able to hold the visitors back in the top of the fourth, victo- Brussels Soccer fields are busy spots these days. The 1996 Brussels Minor Soccer season kicked off in the week of May 20 and is now in full swing. Registration is at a record level with 175 players signed up on 12 teams in various age groups. New this year is Kiddie Kickers team for four and five year olds. Spectators are welcome and are On Tuesday, May 28 the Brussels PeeWee boys opened their season with a disappointing 13 - 1 loss at home to Gowanstown. The home side played well, but the early-season jitters were evident. Joshua Gropp scored the lone Brussels run after hitting a triple scoring. Acre T then tied the game. At half time the teams were tied at 2-2. In the final minutes Terry Brown scored the goal which proved to be the winner. Kirk Baillie and Terry Brown led the Brussels B team. Josh Beuermann made his debut in goal and turned in a strong performance. Richard Terpstra led the Acre T attack with one goal. Michael Albers scored Tigers last at bat for a 1-1 tie with the Brewers. Uhrig pitched a five hit, 15 strikeout game while Walton's Leonhardt struck out 12 Tigers. Wednesday in Zurich the Tigers scored six in the second for a 6-1 win against the Rangers. Brett Clarkson batted three for four with Conley and Uhrig combining for 14 strikeouts. The Tigers' home opener was forfeited when the Lieury Red Sox arrived without enough players to field a team. Tonight the Tigers travel to Seaforth then return home Sunday to meet their crosstown rivals, the Bulldogs. ry was clearly in the hands of the Belgrave boys, who finished off the inning basically for the fun of it, though they did have eight more cross the plate. All games start at 7 p.m. with the U7 Minis and the Kiddie Kickers at the arena field and the other games at Brussels Public School. then stealing home. Brussels Acre T was defeated by Newton 10-0. Brussels B team hosted the undefeated Palmerston team. Both teams had white uniforms and the players and officials had difficulty sorting it all out. Brussels' Terry Brown opened the scoring. Palmerston then tied the game. Again Brussels went ahead on Adam Can's goal. Half time came, with the Palmerston team ahead by one goal. Terry Brown was fouled in the penalty area. His penalty kick was a high shot which went over the Palmerston keeper into the net. The game was tied again. Palmerston's Scott Sinclair broke free and headed for the goal. In a desperate attempt to stop him Brussels Scott Clarkson was called for a foul in the penalty area. Philip Graber, Brussels' keeper made a valiant effort to stop the Palmerston penalty kick, but the ball rolled into the net. Palmerston scored again and Brussels made an intense effort to get the equalizer. Adam Carr led the attack. On a nicely executed corner kick, he headed the ball, but his attempt just missed the top of the net. Brussels maintained the pressure and Kirk Baillie broke through, but missed on a low shot. The Palmerston keeper played an outstanding game and foiled the many booming shots which Brussels sent in on the goal. Late in the game Palmerston scored another goal which put the game out of reach. The final score was 5-3 for Palmerston. Tigers record 34 PeeWees bounce Seaforth 175 play Brussels soccer Brussels PeeWees lose 13-1
