Girl wins at Seaforth meet
Congratulations to Carrie
Leonhardt who was the Midget
Girls overall champion at the
Regional Track and Field in
Seaforth. The kids that went from
Walton did a great job of
representing the school.
On Friday, Play Day was held
with classes from JK to Grade 3
participating. The Grade 4s assisted
the teachers in the supervision of
the games. There were games like,
dodge ball, golf ball and spoon
game, parachute play and aquatics.
Mr. Myers was supply teacher
for the Grade ls on Friday and he
enjoyed his time with the kids. They
talked about what was in the
medicine cabinet and what some of
the warming signs on different
bottles were about. He said that he
5 confirmed
at Duff's
service
Margaret Craig and Betty McCall
were greeters at Duff's United
Church on June 2.
Rev. Randy Banks shared the
Old Testament reading of Genesis
1: 1-2, 4 with the five girls who
were being confirmed later on in
the service.
The choir sang, Lord How
Majestic is Your Name? Then
Leona and Ken McDonald came
forward for the presentation,
reception and dedication .of the
marriage, registration table and a
church outdoor sign, in memory of
Leona's Dad, Ernest Wesley
Stevens.
Rev. Banks talked about some of
the things that the confirmation
students did during their varied
lessons. They were challenged,
along with their mentors, to
investigate their faith and learn
about all the different aspects of the
church.
Kelly McDonald, Janice
McCallum, Kerry McClure, Tina
McClure and Katie Emmrich were
all welcomed as new members into
the church by profession of faith.
One by one the girls were called
forward for the laying on of hands
by Rev. Banks and their mentors.
Mary Humphries was mentor for
Kelly McDonald; Marie McGavin
was chosen to work with Kerry
McClure and Tina McClure,
Kathleen Williamson aided Katie
Emmrich and Olene Dennis was
chosen by Janis McCallum.
The new members were present-
ed with membership certificates
and contemporary English version
of the Holy Bible. The girls took
turns at the microphone telling a bit
about what they thought of the
course. Comments were, "It was
better than what I expected," "I was
proud to be part of the group", "I
learned that there was a lot
involved in being part of the
church."
Communion was then served to
the congregation by LeeAnn
McDonald, Chad McCallum,
Margery Huether and Leona
McDonald.
Rev. Banks announced that June
9 was anniversary service which
will start at 11. Special speaker is
Muriel Duncan, editor of the
United Church Observer and a
former resident of the Whitechurch
area. Special music will be by the
M.offatt's with lunch and social
hour to follow the service.
More Walton news pg. 22
got to tell some stories about his
childhood and especially about the
nightmare he had had as a child
about his medicine cabinet.
The Grade 2s were able to go up
the road to the Huron County
woods with the kindergarten class.
Mr. Bowers has been working up
there for some time now cutting
paths through the woods, and he
led the way. The kids di ;covered
tadpoles, frogs, water si:6:lers and
the skeleton of the ground hog stole
the show.
The Grade 3s held their math
contract celebration with games,
finishing their pinatas and making
pig puppets and lots of goodies to
eat.
Well folks it is hot off the press —
The Grade 4 newspaper called The
Walton Free Press. Copies of this
very informative paper are
available at the school. It is a must
for finding out what has been
happening over the past year. There
is an Opinion Page which states,
"Mrs. Vandendool thinks that
children watch too much TV".
There are some very good
comments about that.
The students have also begun
novel -reading about ''Incredible
Edibles". This includes books
called How to eat Fried Worms, Ice
Cream for Breakfast and Chocolate
Fever.
The schoolyard sale was a great
success as were the yard sales all
over town. There was a lot of
traffic through the metropolis of
Walton. People reported that they
got rid of a lot of treasures.
