Local returns from trip
Rocking the night away
Students at East Wawanosh Public School sat down on the job in their efforts to raise funds
for a class trip to Toronto and Evangel Hall, an inner city mission for street kids in Toronto.

6/7 classmates, were going to keep their rocking chairs rocking for 15 hours, beginning May
3, in the hopes of raising more than $1,100. The rock-athon was part of the class's Lions
Quest Program as a service project.

Grade 6/7 class raises funds sitting for 15 hours
The Grade 8 students of EWPS
would like to thank everybody who
attended their ham and scalloped
potato supper which was a great
success. Thanks also to the parents
who either made scalloped potatoes
or pies.
Kitchen help included Joyce
Thompson, Linda Meier and
Marilyn Freiburgcr.
Nolda Kulas had made and
donated a multi-coloured crocheted
Muriel Coultes returned Wednes-
day from a trip to the Maritimes.
Three days were spent in Bathurst,
N.B. where she was the special
guest speaker at the Maritime
Conference UCW bi-annual
meeting.
Three more days were spent in
Kentville, N.S. in the Annapolis
Valley, where she was the guest of
the Valley Presbyterial UCW
spring Thankoffering meeting.
These invitations were extended
because of her trip to Korea with
the peace ribbons, and also because
of her position as president of the
National Consultation of Women
of the United Church.
Mabel's Moms met on Wednes-
day, May 1 at their regular time.
Those who attended were Donna
Raynard, Trevor and Heidi; Andrea
Stevenson, Mathew, Tyler and
Spencer; Kim Higgins and Laura;
Linda Hess and Andrew; Elaine
Scott and Payton; Sandra Dorsch
and Melinda; Claren Yuill; Lila
Procter and Ben; Sherri Sippel,
afghan, on which the students had
sold tickets. The draw was made at
the supper by Nolda and it was won
by Sheila Nixon. Congratulations
Sheila.
The Grade 8 students will be
barbecuing at the Belgrave Co-op
on Saturday, May 18. This will be
their final fundraiser for their trip to
Quebec.
The Grade 6/7 class was working
hard to make the Rock-a-thon a
Christi, Scott and Daniel; Annette
Te Raa, Mitchell and Janelle.
The topic was "Education — How
Parents Should be Involved".
Last week Carleigh Galbraith
received first in saxophone with 80
points, while brother Shawn
received first in classical guitar
with 85 points at the Midwestern
Ontario Rotary Music Festival held
in Walkerton. Congratulations
Carleigh and Shawn from friends
and neighbours.
On Tuesday, April 30 the Home
Schooling mothers and children
enjoyed a potluck dinner and get-
together at the home of Scott and
Linda Galbraith and family. It was
a casual fun day and the children
enjoyed playing together and
visiting.
On Thursday, May 2 Margaret
Higgins, Alvin and Verna Higgins
of Wingham spent the day in
Waterloo and enjoyed dinner at the
Stone Crock Restaurant in St.
Jacobs.
great success. It was held Friday,
May 3 at 4 p.m.until May 4 at
7 a.m.
They formed various committees
and each should be commended for
their excellent ideas which they
brought before the class. Hcrc is a
summary of various decisions.
The games committee members
supplied a Sega and a Super NES
for video games and various video
games. Other students brought
video games, board games, cards,
etc.
Movie committee members
brought assortment of personal
videos that were suitable for
viewing at school.
Music committee members
supplied appropriate sound systems
for small group listening.
Food committee members
ordered pizza. To show its
appreciation to he Grade 6/7 class
for its work on the Peacemaker
program, the school purchased two
slices of pizza and one can of pop
per student. orders of additional
pieces were taken and money
collected by committee members
and the delivery of pizza was
arranged by the committee. Other
snack items were left up to the
students.
The sponsor sheet committee
tabulated the total amount spon-
sored on each sheet. The members
will count the money after it is all
collected.
The students were great lorgani-
zers and the rock-a-thon was a
great success with lots of fun.
The Grade 6/7 are grateful to
everyone who supported them in
their rock-a-thon.
Piano students pass
Congratulations are extended to
several piano students from our
area, who recently competed in the
Midwestern Ontario Rotary Music
Festival in Walkerton. Brittany

School fair

The regular meeting of the
Belgrave Community Club was
held on Friday, May 3. The
meeting opened with the singing of
0 Canada.
The minutes of the last meeting
were read and adopted. The
treasurer's report was presented.
Correspondence were read from
USCO regarding the annual
convention being held in London in
August.
It was decided to grant the Bel-
grave, Brussels, Blyth School Fair
the amount of $100 and the
Belgrave Community Centre
