Club pays tribute to members
The Blyth Swinging Seniors met
in the Blyth Memorial Hall for their
potluck dinner on Wednesday,
April 24.
After dinner President Isabelle
Craig called the meeting to order
and opened with the singing of 0
Canada, accompanied by Graeme
McDowell at the piano.
A moment's silence was observed
in memory of three recently depart-
ed members, Shirley Vincent,
Lillian Riehl and Betty Hoegy.
Happy Birthday was sung to Ferne
Mcdowell for her April birthday.
Vera Badley and Hary McDowell
conducted a lively song-a-long.

The ball began rolling a few
weeks ago and the momentum is
steadily gaining.
The campaign by Blyth Reeve
Mason Bailey for the cessation of
municipal collection of education
taxes is receiving widespread sup-
port across the province.
Letters seeking support were sent
to all 754 municipalities in the
province, with 266 responses
already received. Of that total, 166
municipalities support the resolu-
tion wholly, while another 37 sup-
port it in principle. Eleven
municipalities stated no support for
the plan.
"Several requests have been
received for additional information
as well as the list of supporters,"
says Clerk-Treasurer John Stewart.
"Though Deputy-Clerk Ralph
Walton of Toronto, sent us a letter
indicating that city's disagreement
with the redistribution of education
taxes collected in their municipali-
ty, after a long talk, he agreed with
our position and asked for further

The mayor of Smooth Rock Falls
in Northern Ontario has also
requested a letter from Blyth coun-
cil which would ask for the support
from the northern municipalities for
the resolution. He hopes to have the
resolution passed at an upcoming
convention of the Federation of
-Northern Ontario Municipalities,
says Reeve Bailey.
Several large cities are also com-
ing on board such as Waterloo,
who approved the resolution at the
May 7 council meeting, Vaughn
and the possibility of Kingston.
