If this looks like a foreign lan-
guage, a secret code or just a bunch
of gibberish, you probably don't
have children between the ages of
five and 18 in school and you
haven't surfed the net.

GRADE 6/7
Mr. Fisher's Grade 6/7 class is
organizing and participating in a
Rock-a-thon at the school starting
at 4 p.m. Friday, May 3 and ending
around the world, just to name a
few.
Blyth is one of the ever-increas-
ing number of schools in the Huron
County Board of Education system
which have developed a homepage,
a few screens of information which
introduces video visitors from
around the globe, to Blyth.
Two staff members, Teacher-
Librarian Karen Webster and
Teacher Pat Hulley have spent
many hours learning the ways of
the intemet, teaching others in the
school how to best use the resource
and are working with students to
at 7:00 a.m., Saturday, May 4.
They will be rocking in their
rocking chairs to raise money for
an agency for the homeless and for
their class fund (50/50 split).
The Grade 6/7 class has begun
channel their youthful interest.
With assistance from students,
Teag Onn and Brian Sherred, a
homepage was developed which
not only tells visitors about the
school, but other activities and
points of interest in the community.
A few clicks of the mouse will
lead an internet surfer through a
brief history of the village, infor-
mation about the homecoming, a
few fun trivia questions related to
the information provided and on to
the theatre.

say, it is a web; following one path
can lead to many others.
For their contribution to bringing
technology to Blyth Public School,
Webster and Hulley were recent
recipients of the Director's (of Edu-
cation) Recognition Award.
Hulley was cited for her "leader-
ship influence and commitment to
computer technology to support
Transition Years learning along
with her role as staff 'techno-train-
er'," says HCBE Director of Educa-
tion Paul Carroll.
"As site manager of computer
technology, Webster has co-ordi-
nated the school networking pro-
ject, overseen weekly .staff
computer training and developed
on-going word processing training
for students," he says.
Another recipient of a Director's
Recognition Award was Cheryl
Cronin for her role in establishing
Peacemakers, acting as chaperone
at a leadership camp and assisting
with the "I Care Cat" uroeram.
