The Agricultural Commodity
Corporation (ACC) provides an
alternate source of operating capital
at a competitive rate, for the
planting of crops. Last year, for
example, the interest rate on loans
was between 0.6 per cent to one per
cent below prime. Currently the
interest rate is 3/4 per cent below
prime. Loan amounts are calculated
as follows:
Loan rate for each crop X your
crop insurance guarantee per acre
X number of acres for each crop.
The loan rate for several spring
crops is as follows: corn, $2.15;
soybeans, $5.15; white beans, $14
and coloured beans, $18.
In addition to these loan rates the
ACC will directly pay premiums
for crop insurance on all spring
seeded grain and oilseed crops. The
maximum loan is $750,000 with no
minimum. Administration fees for
the loan are based on the loan
amount.
In addition a 2.1 per cent hold-
back will be deducted from each
loan cheque issued, and two per
cent plus interest will be returned to

You must carry crop insurance
for all the crops that you request a
loan on. Loans are advanced in two
stages; up to 50 per cent may be
advanced after your application is
approved, the remaining 50 per
cent is forwarded once the ACC
receives your final crop acreage
report issued by crop insurance.
Loans are to be repaid as the crop
is either sold, fed to livestock, or at
the latest, Feb. 28 for grains,
oilseeds, apples, and potatoes. Loan
requests currently may take up to
three weeks to process.
Application forms are available
from the Ontario Ministry of Agri-
culture, Food and Rural Affairs
office in Clinton, some input
suppliers, Farm Credit offices, or
