Almost every class participated including teachers. After announcements Mr. Kemp (our school's awesome principal) took pictures of the students who wore hats. Thank you to anyone who made that day pleasant. On Monday, April 9, the Grade 3/4 class went to the Slice of Huron. The Slice of Huron show cases farming in Huron County. Each group got to see two cases out of the six, which Mrs. Uhler picked for them. Those six were: red meat, dairy, fruits and vegetables, grains, poultry and rainbow. In dairy, Candice Ross said that they watched a movie about a calf being born and how they tied ropes around their feet to pull them out. Rachel Elliott said that a cow has four stomachs and the food goes through all four. Tyler Jutzi learned that when a calf is three months old it weighs 350 pounds, and its mother weighs 1400 to 1500 pounds. Rachel Speers told us that there is a kind of oil inside lambs wool called lanolin. Ashley Keffer said that if yon plant your favourite apple tree and won't get that kind of apples, because bees go from tree to tree and pollinate the flowers to form different apples. Emily Cardiff said there are over 500 kinds of apples We asked Morgan Bishop what Brussels People Brussels Agricultural Society had its first meeting to start things rolling for the Brussels Fall Fair. This year on May 26 they are having a car rally. Also board members will be selling tickets on a quilt. The Society is always looking for new members to help them keep the fair going. The theme this year is Country and Western. Ambassa- dor of the Fair will be Sept. 14 with a fashion show, barbecue, and dance. Fair dates are Sept. 17 and 18. he learned and he said that an elk's horns fall off every year. Philip Wedow explained that brown turkeys lay brown eggs and white turkeys lay white eggs. Kelly White told us they catch chicken in the dark. In the primary classes, students are talking about the Planets: Earth, Mars, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto, Neptune. They found out that the Sun is a star. It ties into the Grade 6, 7 and 8 Science lesson about the Atmosphere, Stratosphere, Tropo- sphere, Mesosphere, Thermo- sphere, Exosphere and the Ozone layer. Far out! Grade 8 students are now thinking about the big "G" — Graduation. They are talking about all the different awards they are eligible for. All of the students are looking forward to this special occasion to be held on June 24. Matt Cameron is sick in London Children's Hospital. We wish him a speedy recovery. It is skipping season again and students are bringing their skipping ropes. This year we hope to have a Jump Rope For Heart. We encourage all parents to send a rope with children, or children to bring their ropes and join in the fun. Do you have a camera tripod that you aren't using? Brussels Public will soon have a new video camera that would like to stand on its own three feet. Call the school at (887- 9361) if you could donate a tripod. Dist. Dep. visits Lodge Morning Star Rebekah Lodge met on Tuesday, April 23 with a good attendance. Lodge opened in the usual manner, followed by the opening ceremonies. It was the pleasure of the Lodge to have Sister Irma Cartwright District Deputy President of Huron District No. 23 pay her spring visit. She was accompanied by three other Sisters from Clinton Lodge. She has had a very busy year but enjoyed it all. She extended her wishes to Sister Rene Richmond, who will be the District Deputy President for 1996-97. The District church service will be held in Blyth United Church on Sunday, May 5 at I 1 a.m. The Lodge is invited to Clinton for Friendship Night on May 6. An invitation from Listowel Lodge has been extended to attend a luncheon on June 3 at 12:30 p.m. Sister Gertie Kellington reported on the District meeting which was held in Clinton Lodge. The lodge extends sympathy to Linda Jacklin, Lois McCall and Ken and Laura Barbour in their loss of their loved ones. A silent auction is to be held after lodge on May 14. All members are to bring a couple of items to be sold. 4-Hers meet By Laura Shilling We opened our meeting with the 4-H Pledge. We held our meeting at our leader's home. Her name is Kathy Bridge. There were four member ,present. We each took turns reading through the home alone section out loud. When we got to the babysitting section, we made a list of items we would bring in our bag of tricks and then compared notes. Then Megan Bragg, one of the members, taught us how to make magic mud. You do this by mixing cornstarch with water. You pick up some of the mixture and squeeze it in your hand. The mixture will turn solid. But when you open your hand it turns to liquid again. We all took turns putting our hands into the magic mud. Kathy then gave us some refreshments and assigned some homework. We also discussed our meeting for next week. Then we- said our motto "Learn to do by doing" and closed the meeting.
