ENGINEERED FOR THE WAY YOU RIOU
The Brussels Crusaders
outscored Ripley 4-1 in the third
period for an 8-5 win and the
Senior "A" Championship Friday
night in Ripley. The win gave the
Crusaders the series in five games
and is the third "A" championship
in their nine year history.
Ripley opened the scoring late in
the first before Ron Strome fought
off two defenders to tie with eight
seconds remaining. The teams then
exchanged six goals, (Brian
Campbell, Rick Boon and Brent
Vandenakker scoring for Brussels)
for a 4-4 tie after two periods.
Eight minutes into third period
play, Phil Livermore gave the
Crusaders the lead, followed by J.
C. Hewitt's and Dale Timmerman's
goals 38 seconds apart. Ripley
scored late on the powerplay before
Hewitt's second of the period
sealed the championship with four
seconds remaining.
The win brought an end to an
excellent season of Senior Hockey
in Brussels in which the Crusaders
were undefeated in 18 straight
home games, lost only one of their
last 12 regular scheduled games,
enjoyed a 12 win, three loss playoff
record and held scoring leader Sean
Burton (47 goals) to three goals in
the final series. Individually Steve
Fritz led all playoff scorers with 33
points and the goaltenders had the
lowest goals against average in the
regular season.

Just a tip of the hand
That is all it would take for Ryan Montgomery of the Grade 8 class at Blyth Public School to
knock the volleyball onto his opponents' court. However, Jeremy VanAmersfoort, centre,
and Darrell McDougal of the opposing side were more than prepared for a return attack,
when the class competed during physical education class, Thursday.
4-H has
special
meeting
By Sarah McLellan
On Monday, April 1, the
achievement day for the 4-H clubs
"The Power of Produce" and
"Wearable Art" were held.
At approximately 6:30 p.m., the
MCs, Maggie Hallman and Kerry
Blake, got the program started. The
first item on the agenda was a pOt
luck dinner. Then, the leaders
handed out the bars of the drama
club; the bars of the current clubs
were delayed because of the
OPSEU strike.
Next, the DeWit sisters, Cynthia
and Christina sang The Vegetable
Song. Following this was a skit by
the "Power of Produce" club,
performed by the club members,
and written by a youth leader,
Wanda Martin.
While the members of the
"Wearable Art" club prepared for
their finale, Julie Terpstra gave a
presentation entitled "From Farm
To Table".
The grande finale of the night
was a fashion show which
displayed the works the members
created during the club. The
fashion commentators, Missy
McLellan and Laura Rice let
everyone know what was going on.
Thanks to everyone who
attended, participated and
organized.
