Looking for local heroes
There are so many people out there who do
so much to improve their community.
Now you have a chance to say thanks.
Nominate that special person for the 10th
Annual Citizen Citizenship Awards.
Each year a committee chooses an outstanding citizen from
each of the Blyth and Brussels communities to receive an
award for contribution to the community. If you know
someone you think should be honoured, please fill in the
ballot and send it in. You may attach a longer explanation
of why you think your nominee should win, if you like. If
you have nominated someone before and he or she didn't
win, please feel free to try again.

The regular meeting of Morning
Star Rebekah Lodge No. 315 took
place on Tuesday, March 26 with
Noble Grand Sister Betty Cardiff
presiding. There was a good
attendance of members.
The Lodge is pleased that Sister
Irene Richmond has accepted the
office of District Deputy President
of Huron District No. 23 for the
term 1996-97.
Plans will be finalized at the next
meeting for members to attend the
District Meeting in Clinton at
2 p.m. on April 10 as well as
meetings in Ilderton on April 22
and May 6 and Listowel on April
11.
Brother Bill Young District
Deputy Grand Master announced
that Brother Mel McCutcheon will
receive the Degree of Chivalry on
April 13 at the Brussels, Morris and
Grey Community Centre. A dinner
will precede at 4:30 p.m. with the
meeting at 7 p.m. Brussels Odd-
fellows and Rebekahs will host this
meeting at which there will be
guests from all over Ontario.

10 tables in play
at Majestic euchre
Bunny rabbits, Easter eggs and a
luscious ham meal was the focus
when 19 members met for Brusiels
Community Dining.
Tara Ferguson, co-ordinator,
welcomed everyone and led all in
the Brussels Diners' grace. The two
Grade 8 helpers from Brussels
Public School were Amy Ross and
Joshua Gropp.
Several readings were given and
the draws conducted. 50/50 was
won by Nelva Scott. The door
prizes were won by Ruth Galbraith
and Ella Stone. Millie's pie was in
such demand that it even went as
door prizes.
Entertainment was in the form of
crafts. Carson Watson had made
wooden zip sticks for each man and
also showed his hand at card tricks.
Ruth Sauve showed the ladies how
to make decorative fans from
wallpaper and odds and ends. The
women were very creative, as each
fan was quite unique.
Mrs. Sauve will be the guest
speaker at the April 11 meeting.
Her topic is gardening tips, and
care of new Easter plants.
Ten tables of euchre were played
at the second last WI card party of
the season on April 2.
Prizes went to: high lady, Elunid
McNair; high man, Gordon
Thedorf; low lady, Roberta
Sinipson; low man, Les Knight;
lone hands, Stewart Musgrove;
April birthday, Viola Adams; and
lucky numbers, Iona McLean and
Helen Gallop.
Persons who attended all the
Majestic Women's Institute card
parties this winter were: Helen
Gallop, Mary Huether, Iona
McLean, Viola Adams, Helen
Dobson, Jean Ireland, Jim Smith,
Allan Edgar, Stewart Musgrove,
and Doug Hemingway. They all
received a gift.
The next card party will beheld
on Monday, April 29 at 7 p.m. with
a casserole supper first and
proceeds going to the Cancer
Society.
Brussels raised $1,112.50 for the
Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Canvassers were Martha Logan,
Ida Evans, Anne Exel, Lynn
Cronin, Alice Brothers, Sheila
Richards, Julie Jutzi, Kathy Bridge,
Teresa Bridge, Cheryl Thyssen and
Ruth Bauer.
