Stephen Huntley Welcomes You to a Good Friday Service Friday, April 5 7:00 p.m. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 3, 1996 PAGE 15. Blyth congregation celebrates Palm Sunday It was Palm Sunday at Blyth United with the season colour being red. The Sunday School children participated. Greeters were Herb and Corey Shannon while ushers were Michelle Cook and Justin Peters. Rev. Stephen Huntley conducted the service and Phyllis Boak was organist. The Sunday School children proceeded into the church carrying palm leaves. They led the congregation in singing Join the Celebration of the World, with Rev. Huntley accompanying on guitar. Following the children's hymn, Tell Me The Stories of Jesus, Rev. Huntley outlined the story of Simba, in The Lion King, comparing him to Jesus corning back to His Kingdom and being a special kind of King -- King of Kings! The choir rendered an anthem, In His Blessed Presence, accompanied by Mrs. Bonk on piano. Harvey McDowell read the Old Testament lesson from Isaiah and the New Testament from Philip- pians, while the Gospel reading, from Matthew, chapter 21: 1-11, was read by the minister. The sermon was entitled, "Who Is This?" Rev. Huntley said, two thousand years ago, Jesus came, into His 'city and people were asking who this Nurse speaks at Blyth UCW Blyth UCW met in the church parlour Tuesday evening, March 26 with 22 ladies in attendance. The theme for the meeting was "children". President Emily Phillips opened with the reading "Children Learn What They Live". Brenda Brooks was in charge of the worship and had scripture readings, a story, a thought for the day and prayer relating to children. Mary Lou Stewart introduced the guest speaker, Connie Kuc, a Public Health Nurse. Connie gave an interesting, informative and challenging talk. She spoke of her role in today's society where the traditional family unit is missing in many homes. Young mothers receive help with shopping, caring for babies, household safety and often, much needed moral support. Connie and her coworkers also help older children and their families cope with situations such as drugs in school and peer pressure. Children need to be involved and participate in programs. Anyone can give troubled parents and children a smile and a word of encouragement. We were reminded that the city has come to the country, with its problems. Mary Lou thanked Connie and presented her with a donation for the Survival Through Friendship House. Roll call was answered by the giving of a gift to the Survival Through Friendship House. Emily conducted the business segment of the meeting. There are now casseroles available for anyone in need. It was suggested that in future, it would be helpful if the date of making and the cooking instructions were included. Catharine Caldwell read the minutes from the previous meeting. Joann McDonald gave the financial report. Joan Clark brought the news from Camp Menesetung. person was and what all the fuss was about. "There is something compelling about humility. People wanted a worldly King someone to stick it to the Romans. Instead they got a suffering servant, a shepherd and a slave." In closing he said, "Jesus knew who He was. We are all very important people in Jesus' eyes, even though we struggle with sin, imperfection which is unacceptable in the world's eyes of high standing. Do we know who we are in Christ?" Following the sermon there was a report on the auction which was held last Friday. It was haled a resounding success, not just monetary but in the fact of everyone pulling together. The Sacrament of Holy Communion followed. The elders were assisted by the mid-week Youth Group, Anthony and Jonathon Sanderson, Rachel de Boer, Jac.:ie Falconer, Jenny Ritchie and Amanda Cook. The service concluded with the hymn Ride on, Ride on in Majesty. The choral response was "Go Now in Peace". In hospital are Lillian Richl in Clinton and Marion Wright and George Cowan in Wingham. High school individuals interested in becoming members of Blyth United Church are to contact Rev. Huntley. Confirmation classes will begin after Easter. HURON CHAPEL MISSIONARY CHURCH PASTOR JAMES H.
