The Blyth Tykes closed off their season last weekend with a playoff tournament in Clinton and came home as the "B" Consolation Champions. After losing a close 3-1 contest to Goderich, with Josh Albrechtas scoring the lone Blyth goal, the team went to the "B" side and met Clinton. This time, the offense exploded and handed their opponents a 13-0 defeat. Albrechtas led the way with 10 goals and two assists. Rounding out the scoring were Tony Bean, Jenna Rinn and Brittney Peters with goals. Assists went to Rinn, Heather Schmidt and Kendall Whitfield with four. Jeffrey Elliott preserved the shutout. On Sunday morning, they took to the ice for their third game, this time against Seaforth. In a very exciting match, Blyth stole away with a 2-1 victory, scoring the winning goal with only 0:04 left in overtime. The Brussels Novices were eliminated from playoffs last Tuesday after suffering a 4-3 overtime loss to Teeswater. Brandon Blake, Tate Stephenson and Scott Armstrong scored for Blyth with assists going to Robbie Semple (two), Brent Wheeler, Tyler Jutzi and Armstrong. Trainer Murray Armstrong said the contest was exciting and both teams played a very sportsmanlike game. He complimented all the players for their effort. Josh Albrechtas opened the score right off the faceoff. The teams battled back and forth with Blyth's goalie Jeff Elliott and Scaforth's Man Devereau making many outstanding saves. Seaforth replied with a goal by Derek Wolfe at 3:30 of the first period, but with no scoring in the second this game would be forced into a six-minute overtime period. With only five seconds remaining Josh Albrechtas scored on a nice setup by Orie Falconer and Darcey Cook to seal the Bulldog victory. Less than one hour later, the team took to the ice in the consolation championship against Elma-Logan. Unfortunately, their opponents proved victorious on this occasion skating to a 7-0 victory. Coach Rick Elliott commended his team for their effort and said the whole weekend was a wonderful experience.
