Reaching in
The Blyth Tykes hosted Clinton II on March 18 and skated to a 13-0 victory. Here a member
of the home team gets ready to take a shot on net, while his opposing defenseman muscles
in to take control before the damage is done.

The Blyth Atoms ended their
season with a series of close,
exciting games.
After losing the first game of
their best-of-three playoff series
against Goderich, they bounced
back to take the second game by a
3-1 margin. Micah Loder led the
attack with a pair of goals, with
Neil Salverda adding another.

raises funds
for purchases
Fundraising efforts and improve-
ments to the arena were the topics
for discussion at the March 13
meeting of the Brussels, Morris and
Grey Community Centre Recre-
ation Board.
The Valentine's Day dance, a
joint venture between the Rec
board and the Brussels Optimist
Club, raised $1,951.24 to be split
evenly between the two organiza-
tions.
A casino/pub night will be held
April 20th, from 8 p.m. until 1
a.m., to raise funds for the purchase
of anew french fryer in September.
Arena Manager Murray McArter
will also look into the prices for a
fax machine and an energy
probe/brine pump control.
McArter was instructed to pur-
chase a new pool liner from Midde-
gaal Pools, Seaforth.
The cost of painting the arena
roof will be investigated by Chair
Alvin McLellan.
After being advised that a child
had been hurt while climbing the
railings of the arena stand stairs,
McArter was instructed to look into
possibilities of improving the safe-
ty of the railing, either with solid
plexiglass or additional railings.
After considerable discussion of
the accounts payable and assets of
the Brussels Minor Hockey Associ-
ation, the board agreed to donate
$700, as they had the previous two
years.
The board was advised that the
Brussels Optimists Atom Hockey
tournament would be moved to
Nov. 1-3 and Dec. 29-31 next sea-
son so that conflict of ice time
would not occur.
The ice will be removed from the
arena after the final Crusader game.
Approval was given for the pay-
ment of accounts in the amount of
$38,065.82.
Mark Machan and Kirk Stewart
picked up assists in the victory.
The exciting third game was
played last Monday and proved a
thrill for all in attendance. After
being deadlocked in a 0-0 game at
the end of regulation, it took until
the second overtime for a goal to be
scored. Unfortunately for Blyth, it
was Goderich who came out on
top, scoring the game's only goal at
6:21 of the second overtime period.
Coach Tom Jarrett commended
both teams for their heart and effort
in the tough series.
The team put a close to their
season last Tuesday, participating
in a tournament in Seaforth and
coming home with the "A"
Championship.
Their first triumph came over
Scaforth. Trailing 3-1 at the end of
two periods, the offense woke and
answered with two more goals to
tie the game at 3-3. There was no
scoring in the overtime frame but,
because Blyth outshot their
opponents in the extra period, they
were awarded the game.
Blyth goals were scored by
Robbie Archambault (two) and
Andrew Toll.
In their second game, they
triumphed over Clinton by a close
3-1 score. Shaun Henry, who had a
goal and two assists, was named
the game's MVP.
Archambault again scored a pair
of goals and Cole Stewart earned
three assists.
In the championship game, the
team got avenged for their earlier
losses to Goderich by defeating
them in a tough 2-0 game. Cole and
Kirk Stewart each had a goal and
an assist, with Steven VanAmers-
foort earning an assist as well.
Goaltender Eric Jarrett was
named the game's MVP.
Coach Jarrett said the team-
played well all day, and really
deserved the win.
Brussels Tykes played an
excellent game recently against
Stephen Twp., keeping the score
close until the last few minutes.
Scoring for Brussels was Adam
McClure, Kyle Gibson, Chris
Corbett, and Mathew White.
Leading the way with assist on the
goals was Adam McClure with
two, Cory Chapman and Kyle
Gibson each assisted once.
Brussels defence had their work
cut out for them by trying to stop
Stephen's offence and they did
great until the last couple of
minutes in the game. On defence
for Brussels was Mitch Blake,
Tommy Cronin, Nathon Prior,
Chase Chapman, and Adam
Corbett. In net for Brussels was
Christopher Jutzi who jumped on
every puck that came near his net.
The year-end tournament is this
weekend in Clinton. Brussels
Tykes play their first game at
2 p.m. on Saturday, March 30.
