As the puck slides by, a member of the Brussels Atoms scrambles to get to his feet white
two Elma-Logan defense move to protect their territory. The excitement, which was the first
game in the Brussels Optimist Atom tournament was a nailbiter, with the home squad pulling
out a 4-3 victory with just 43 seconds left in the game. The results of the tournament were
not available as the semi-finals had to be postponed due to inclement weather. It is hoped
that they will be able to play them out next weekend. This weekend the tournament
continues with the teams in the B division.

Juvies go to game 7
The Blyth Juveniles stayed alive
in their OMHA playoff series
against Cayuga last Saturday with a
5-3 victory.
Blyth goals were scored by Chris
Stewart (two), Mike Bromley, Tim
Lyons and Mike Heffron. Assists
were credited to Bromley (two),
Kurt Kumm (two), Benji Hakkcrs,
Mark Wilson and Grant Jarvis.
Coach Neil Salverda was very
impressed with his players, who
adjusted well to what turned out to
be a very physical came. Though
The Belgrave Tykes made it to
the "A" Championship at a
tournament held in Lucknow last
Saturday.
In their first game, they defeated
Lucknow by a 10-5 score. Jeremy
Robinson scored all 10 goals for
Belgrave.
In their next game, they defeated
a second Lucknow team, this time
by a much closer 5-3 score.
they are still behind 7-5 in points,
Coach Salverda felt very confident
that his team can still take the
series.
Game seven is scheduled for this
Friday evening in Blyth at 8 p.m.
Coach Salverda said they are
planning to take a bus to the next
game in Cayuga to be held, if
necessary, on Sunday evening.

Robinson again led the offensive
effort, with four goals. Scott
Phillips added another.
In the championship, they were
defeated by Teeswater in a
heartbreaking 4-3 game. Teeswater
scored two goals in the final minute
of the time to ice the victory.
Robinson scored all three Belgrave
goals.
Darn!
This one may have gone by the net, but there were enough that didn't as the Brussels
Crusaders trounced a visiting Wiarton Redmen team by a score of 4-1 on Saturday night.
The two teams are tied one game apiece in this playoff series.

Crusaders tie series
Brent Vandenakker's two third
period goals broke a 1-1 tie and led
the Brussels Crusaders to a 4-1 win
over the Wiarton Redmen Saturday
night. The win ties the best of
seven semi-final series at one game
apiece.
Game three, scheduled for
Sunday in Wiarton, was cancelled
due to weather conditions. It will
be played Friday night in Wiarton
at 8:45. Game four will be in
Lucknow at 7:30 p.m., with game
five Sunday in Wiarton.
Wiarton took an early lead before
Mike MacKay, who enjoyed a one
goal, two assist game, tied the score
on the powerplay midway through
the first period. Ron Strome
completed the goal scoring, while
Girls tie 1-1
The Belgrave Girls played to an
exciting 1-1 tie with Teeswater last
Monday. Candace Procter scored
for Belgrave.
Coach Cam Procter said
Teeswater was much improved,
and made the game very exciting.
Rick Boon added three assists. Pat
Cronin was solid in net stopping 30
shots while the Crusaders had 31
attempts on the Redmen net.

appreciate the Optimist Club
Tournament Committee
rearranging the Saturday night
Atom Hockey schedule to allow the
Senior game to be played.

Atoms Reps nip Elma-Logan
The Brussels Atom Rep team
participated in the Brussels
Optimists Atom Tournament last
Saturday.
On Friday, they avenged their
recent WOAA playoff loss to Elma
Logan by handing them a 4-3
defeat. Mark Hunter led the attack
Zurich downs
Bantams 4-2
The Blyth Bantams lost 4-2 in
the first game of their WOAA
playoff series against Zurich last
Monday. Mike Haggitt and Jeff
Cowan scored for Blyth, with an
assist going to Mike Ansley.
Trainer Gord Haggitt said, "The
team played well and had a number
of good chances, but their perform-
ance was hampered because they
put too much pressure on them-
selves."
The teams will take to the Blyth
ice again this Wednesday at 7 p.m.
with a pair of goals, Darrell
McClure and Nolan Krotz added a
single goal each.
On Saturday, they were
eliminated by Lucknow in a 3-2
game. Lee Dilworth and Krotz
scored for Brussels.
Coach Alan Krotz said the team
was behind 3-0 early in both
games. "They just came up a bit
short in the second game."
The team will take to the ice in
the "B" division of the tournament
this weekend, filling in for
Wingham. Their first game will be
Friday night against Walkerton.
