THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 6, 1996 Morning Star meets Despite the fact a number of expensive repairs will be carried out at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre and pool, the tax bill to area taxpayers will decline in 1996. In a budget approved by Brussels council Monday night, the levy to each of the three supporting munic- ipalities will drop slightly. The Brussels levy will drop $1,600 from $28,646.99 to $27,014.51. The decrease will be $1300 to Grey and $930 to Morris. Brussels pays 48 per cent of the expenses of the arena and pool, Grey, 33 per cent and Morris, 19. The recreation committee's quar- ter million dollar budget was helped by a $6,150 surplus from 1995. Biggest single items in the budget are salaries ($86,465 includ- ing extra costs for bartending wages since the community centre got its liquor licence) and arena utilities ($47,404). The recreation committee has budgeted to replace the pool liner at the BMG pool at a cost of $4,800. Other capital expenses include $4,700 for a fryer for french fries, $3,000 for gravelling a new parking lot behind the arena (the cost being kept down by volunteer labour), installation of an electronic thermo- stat/ temperature probe on the are- na's refrigerating brine pump and compressor at $2,000, repair of the condenser fan at $1,000 and pur- chase of a fax machine/copier at $900. The committee will also transfer $10,000 to reserves for future capital needs, replacing $10,000 taken out of reserves in 1995 to pay for the arena ceiling renovation. Morning Star Rebekah Lodge held its meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 27 with a good attendance. Noble Grand Betty Cardiff presided. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved followed by the roll call of officers. Sister Leola Hood, presiding in the absence of Vice Grand Laura Barbour, stated there was no report. No one is ill at this time. The committee on the new bylaws had held two meetings. They drafted a letter of the changes to be sent to every member.
