WI sends knitting to Zambia
Rev. Paul Ross led the worship at
Knox United Church and Nancy
Park was organist. The Invitation to
Worship was read alternately,
followed by the opening chorus.
Rev. Ross gave Words of
Welcome and Prayers, which were
followed by the choral response.
He had conversation with the
children and the children's chorus
was sung.
Rev. Ross's message was "I Was
There!"
The Installation of Stewards took
place as follows: Greg Park,
The Londesboro W.I. held its
annual Cavalcade Euchre at
Londesboro United Church on
Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 2 p.m. All
proceeds are for Clinton Public
Hospital.
There were 17 tables of euchre.
Winners were: ladies, high, June
Greeter at Londesboro United
Church on Sunday, Feb. 18 was
Mel Knox. Ushers were Jack Lee
and Debbie Hoggart.
The sermon topic was "I Was
There".

were inducted as new elders. Traci

The fifth euchre tournament was
held at the school on Friday
evening, Feb. 16. There were 19
tables of euchre.

On Feb. 10 there was a break and
enter at The Country Corners Rent
All on the South Boundary,
Stephen Twp. The crooks broke in
and stole a Kabota generator serial
#553624. The generator was orange
and grey with a white gas tank.

The Women's Institute meeting
was held Thursday, Feb. 15 at
1 p.m. Jean Plaetzer chaired the
meeting in the absence of the
president Tena Empey. The Ode
and Grace was sung with Marjorie
McDougall as pianist.
Cake and ice cream and beverage
were served by the hostess Bernice
Anderson and Marjorie McDougall.
Contests were given. Winners
were: how many candies in a jar,
Mildred Lawlor; how many phone
calls you had in the morning,
Evelyn Christensen.
Cards were signed by all.
Councillors
declare 1995
expenditures,
remuneration
With the final tallies in for 1995,
East Wawanosh councillors
declared their remuneration and
expenditures for the year at the Jan.
30 meeting.
Reeve Donald Schultz received
$1,900 for regular meetings, $1,615
for special and committee meetings
and $500 for mileage, conferences
and telephone.
On top of the $1,400 earned by
each councillor, James Campbell
received $1,425 for special/com-
mittee meetings and $172.20 for
mileage, conferences and telephone
while James Hunter tallied $685
and $604.16, Fred Meier earned
$845 and $247.80 and Murray
Scott received $1,715 for
special/committee meetings.
The total cost of council was
$15,309.16, up $1,538 over 1994.
On april 3 and 4, Clerk-Treasurer
Winona Thompson, Road Superin-
tendent Ralph Campbell, and Safe-
ty Officer Don Pattison will attend
a First Aid-CPR course in Auburn.

will attend a seminar on municipal
reform, in Stratford, Feb. 15.
The township insurance with Jar-
dine OME Ltd. was renewed at a
cost of $15,863 plus PST.
The Court of Revision for Byls-
ma Drain will be held at 2 p.m.,
March 5, in Council Chambers.
Municipal drainage mapping, as
requested by the Ministry of Natu-
ral Resources, was finalized by
council, with a price tag of $320.
Council agreed to support
Wheels Away at a cost of 25 cents
per capita per annum plus $2 per
ride for eligible residents.
The road superintendent was
authorized to call tenders for
18,000 tonnes of crushed, delivered
gravel.
Harry Brydges was appointed
dog counter for 1996. Dog fees
were set at $20 per dog and $90 for
kennel.
A quote from Ted Moran
Mechanical, for a gas furnace for
the municipal office, was accepted
by council.
Evelyn Flett, secretary, read a
poem on Valentines and also read
the minutes. Rhonda Bruxer spoke
on sending the knitted blocks to
Zambia which is to be an ongoing
project. The Women's Institute
quilt is being bought by Tena
Empey.
Projects coming up that members
can take are classes in "plant a
flower box", "herbs for health",
"needle tatting" and ribbon
embroidery''. The last two were
chosen by some. They will be taken
at Clinton, April 1. Money for
projects is to be in by March 15.
The roll call "name a privilege of
a Canadian Citizen" was answered
by 16 members. Rhonda Bruxer
had the topic being "Citizenship
and Legislation". As it was Canada
Week she gave a splendid talk on
this and also on Heritage Day. 0
Canada was first sung in 1880. The
Maple Leaf was first sung in 1867.
The beaver was on a penny in 1851
and on a nickel later. Shelby
Bruxer passed flags to everyone,
Euchre
Euchre was played at the
Community Hall on Tuesday
evening, Feb. 13.
Winners were: high lady, Jane
Glousher; low lady, Evelyn
Christensen; high man, Marie
Bromley (playing as a man); men's
low, Ell Lapp; novelty, Tom
Hallam.
Euchre is played every Tuesday
evening at 8 p.m.
