Vincent hosts UCW r-Prvirvf., Services with a smile Members of the Belgrave Girl Guides hosted the area seniors last Thursday night, during their regular meeting at the Belgrave arena. Here, Jenni Hopf serves some tasty desserts to Thelma Pletch. Singers entertain parish The regular meeting of the Evening Unit met at the home of Mabel Wheeler on Tuesday, Feb. 6 with 19 members present. Barbara Anderson opened the meeting with a poem and thanked Mrs. Wheeler for hosting the meeting. The worship service was presented by Lorna Cook and Muriel Coultes which included hymns happy the Home and All the Way My Saviour Leads Me, a scripture reading from Mark 12: verses 28-34 and a meditation, "Love Your Neighbour." The worship service was closed with prayer. During the business the roll call was answered by a school memory of Valentine's Day. It was announced that the annual meeting of the UCW is to be held on Feb. 12 at Ontario Street United Church, Clinton. Barbara Anderson presented the program "All In A Day's Work", followed by a skit, "Flight 1-9-9- The seniors bowling scores were Annie Cook, 98, 88; Ivy Cloakey, 148, 105; Betty Irwin, 50, 103; Mabel Wheeler, 161, 101; Laura Johnston, 125, 144; Louise Bosman, 164, 144; Mae Louttit, 100, 100; Alice Nicholson, 129, 100; Doris Remington, 170, 161; Marj Coultes, 125, 135; Evelyn Galbraith, 120, 156; Jean Walker, 127, 106; Eleanor Neil, 87, 86; Doris Michie, 111, 100. There were nine tables of euchre in play at the Women's Institute Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 14. Winners were: high lady, Agnes Bieman; second high lady, Jean Thedorf; low lady, Florence Schefter; Ione hands, Olive Bolt; high man, George Michie; second high man, Dennis Leddy; low man, Stuart Chamney; lone hands, Iona McLean (playing as a man). The next euchre is Wednesday, Feb. 21 The Brownies held their regular meeting at the East Wawanosh Public School on Thursday, Feb. 15. They learned about Switzer- land, seeing souvenirs, money, a flag, and also what the Brownies wear for their uniform. By the use of a globe and map they saw where Switzerland was actually located. The girls were blindfolded and Family gathers Alice Procter "Mother", cele- brated her birthday at the home of her daughter and son-in-law Ruth and Ken Alton of Lucknow, on Sunday, Feb. 11. During the afternoon, her family, grandchildren, and great-grand- children dropped by to wish her well and enjoy birthday cake and ice cream. Ruth and Ken hosted a dinner by Alice's immediate family, which was attended by Charles and Grace, Ross and Mary, Mary Thomas and George and Elizabeth. The meeting was closed and lunch served by Jane Grasby and Lois Anderson. The Afternoon Unit of the UCW met Feb. 13 at the home of Edith Vincent with 10 members present. Audrey Fenton opened the meeting with a short reading entitled "Signs of Love". Lois Chamney led the worship with the theme being "Love Again". Janisa Coultes read a short poem from a booklet which was compiled a few years ago by Trinity UCW in Ashfield. Mrs. Chamney read a meditation concerning Love. Prayer closed the service. Mrs. Vincent conducted the study from Matthew 10, verses 26-31. Ida Procter was in charge of mission study. She told the life of Pauline Vanier - a Canadian woman of whom all can be proud. The Lord's Prayer closed the meeting. Mrs. Vincent served a delicious dessert and tea. at 8 p.m. Mabel's Moms met at their regular time on Wednesday, Feb. 14. Those who attended were Andrea Stevenson, Matthew and Tyler; Kim Higgins and Laura; Linda Hess and Andrew; Candace Chaffe, Cameron, Brandon and Austin; Sherri Taylor and Brandon. Their topic was "Games for Children". The Belgrave Arena Board held a very successful potluck supper and skating party on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Belgrave Arena. Plans are being made for another in March. Mrs. Chester MacDonald of Goderich and her son Douglas Thompson of Toronto were dinner guests at the home of Ruth Johnston on Wednesday, Fcb. 7. Recently Ashley Irwin of Ashfield Twp. spent a weekend at her grandmother's Betty Irwin. they had to smell different things such as oranges, lemons, coconut, garlic, hot chocolate and coffee, then had to try and guess which each one was. Swiss chocolate was sampled by the group. The girls had their pictures taken for "Thinking Day." Members of Knox United Church, Belgrave were welcomed by Don, Marlene and Ellen Procter, as they gathered for the worship on Sunday, Feb. 18. Guest speaker was Betty Graber of Brussels, who opened the service with two requested hymns, Call to Worship, Prayer of Approach and Confession. The Sonshine Singers under the leadership of Lila Procter sang I'm Growing and Kids Under Construction. Joanne Robinson accompanied at the piano. For the children's time, Mrs. Graber asked if they had any mysteries they hadn't solved. She likened a mystery to the cloud that The men's breakfast was held in. - Knox United Church basement on Saturday, Feb. 10. Vance Dettman showed pictures and gave a very interesting talk on his trip to the Arctic last January. It centered around his visits to Inuit settlements and he talked about their way of life. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Edgar, RR 4, Wingham, Mrs. Irlma Edgar, Wingham and Mrs. Winnifred Johnston of Braemar Retirement Home visited on Saturday, Feb. 17 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse. This was the occasion of Mrs. Johnston's birthday which was that day. Mrs. Larry Mayberry of Londesboro recently visited with her mother Beth Procter. Millie and Alf Nichol spent a few days last week at Harrow, Leamington and Windsor. They attended their cousin, Vera appeared in the scripture and is celebrated on "Transfiguration Sunday". She explained how believing in God may seem a mystery but assured them that God is with them all the time. The New Testament reading from Matthew also spoke of a mystery and she drew that story into her sermon — ''Word, Money and Meaning". She gave many descriptive words for work and money and explained that how we did our work, and how we used our money, gave meaning to our life. She reminded all that this is the Mission theme for this year and the congregation members should look McKenzie's funeral in Harrow. Don Vincent of Petitcodiac visited last weekend with his parents Harold and Edith Vincent. Sincere sympathy is extended to Gord, Nancy Folkard and family in the recent passing of Nancy's brother, Donald Kirkland of Kingsville. May your thoughts and at the work they do, how they spend their money and be ready to support those around who need new meaning in their life. The offering was received by Karrin Marks and Margie Gordon. A card was signed by all the members present for the minister Mary-Jane Hobden and her husband Alan on the arrival of their son, Stephen Andrew, born on Thursday, Feb. 15. Following the prayers and closing hymn many congregated in the church basement for lunch and a social time. Congratulations from friends, neighbours and members of Knox United Church to Rev. Allan Rush and Rev. Mary Jane Hobden on the birth of Stephen Andrew Rush.
