Well folks, the big news this week for many will be the release of four
tapes featuring the wildly funny Mr. Bean **** (Polygram - $19.95 ea.).
First introduced to Canadian audiences by CBC-TV, Mr. Bean (written
and played by Rowan Atkinson) harkens back to the days of silent films
relying for the most part on wonderfully inventive visual gags, the kind
that made Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin so endearing to audiences
during their heyday.
In addition to material already broadcast on North American television
these tapes also feature other footage unseen here.
Still to come according to information gleaned from the Mr. Bean
internet site is a feature film. Also available on video is the popular "Black
Adder" series written by and starring Rowan Atkinson.
For those of you who have access to the INTERNET you might like to

In Beyond Rangoon *** (ColumbiafFristar) a young American doctor
(Patricia Arquette) becomes stranded in Burma amid political turmoil and
the brutal repression of the country's murderous dictatorship. Beyond
Rangoon is a visually stunning and intelligent film from director John
Boorman (Deliverance, Hope and Glory) that despite a rather weak
performance from Arquette retains its power to move us. (Rated 14A)
Among the other new releases you can check out this week is
Dangerous Minds (Hollywood) starring Michelle Pfeiffer as an ex-Marine
high school teacher, who inspires a class of inner city youths to excel.
Based on a true story. (Rated PG)
Denzel Washington headlines the cast of Virtuosity (Paramount), a
futuristic action/thriller about a computer generated killer who escapes
from his "virtual" world into the real one. (Rated 18A)
Families may want to check out The Amazing Panda Adventure
(Warner), the story of a young American lad who goes to China to visit
his dad and becomes involved in an adventure to rescue a baby panda
kidnapped by poachers. (Rated G)
In the classic movie department is The Puppetoon Movie *** 1/2 (HGV -
$14.98) an engaging look at the animated films of George Pal who seems
today to be totally forgotten. Pal, over his career as a producer and
director, was responsible for much of the screen magic I encountered as a
child and teenager. While attending the theatre I marvelled at his live
action films like Destination Moon, War of the Worlds, When Worlds
Collide and The Time Machine, but it was on television where I first came
across his amazing Puppetoons which were originally made for the big
screen. These shorts, which at times included as many as 5,000
individually carved puppets, featured characters like Tubby the Tuba and
the now politically incorrect Jasper, along with hip jazz tunes from the
likes of Charlie Barnet and Louis Armstrong.
The release of The Puppetoon Movie on video is indeed welcome.

great amount of time and effort has
gone into the research and
preparation of their speeches. Our

Thursday, Feb. 15. The Brussels
Legion public speaking contest will
be Feb. 27.
As Valentine's Day approaches
Grades 1 and 2 are looking forward
to celebrating "Day One Hundred"
which will occur on Feb. 14.

MISS MILLER'S EARLY
YEARS CLASS
Kindergarten A has made a
smooth transition from Mrs. Howe-
Lobb who is currently on maternity
leave, to their new teacher Miss
Miller. The students enjoyed
learning how other countries
celebrate Christmas and about
various art mediums.• They now
look forward to learning about life
in the jungle.
We are very pleased to have Mrs.
Blake, Mrs. Deitner and Mrs.
Daugherty as parent volunteers. We
welcome anyone else that would
like to volunteer too!
Each student takes their turn each
day being our Helper. 1-le/she helps
with the calendar and brings
something to share with the class.
February has been a busy month
for birthdays. We wish a Happy
Birthday to Anna, Mady, Cheryl,
Taylor and James.
Kindergarten A is excited about
their second skating day. They
enjoy the opportunity to praetise
and improve their skills.
FEATURING GRADE 1
Grade 1 has been busy learning
about bears of North America.
They were surprised to learn that
the black bear can be white.
They learned how polar bears use
camouflage, and tried some
camouflage experiments. They read
lots of bear stories in class, and
many children read bear stories for
the Rainbow Reading Club.
They are now having fun
learning about winter and snow.
They are making books and riddle
books.
They had an interesting tour of
the school grounds on Friday with
their big buddies. They brain-
stormed winter words. They
measured the temperature in the
classroom, in the outside air, and in
the snow. They looked in and
discussed benefits of snow, and
problems caused by the snow.
They are looking forward to
making bird feeders and an edible
snowman!
Way to go Grade 1.
FAMILIES IN MOTION

Hunt, was a special speaker at the
Continued from page 21
They can sing songs and say poems
about the planets and astronauts.
They have read many books and
seen films about the solar system.
GRADE 7 AND B CURLING
On Thursday, Feb. 8 Mr. Talbot's
Grade 7 and 8 class went curling
for first time this year in Vanastra.
The class has been split into eight
different teams. They are trying to
win the Golden Broom. So far
everyone seems to enjoy this sport.
They will also be going several
more times in •the month of
February.
SPEECHES
Speeches are a big thing right
now at Hullett. Most classes from
grade two to eight have been
working on their class competition.
On Feb. 14 the best three or four
from each class will compete in the
school's gym in front of the whole
school. After that the winners from
that competition will compete
against the Blyth school in our gym
Families in Motion kick-off
assembly. Kathy is a competitive
speed skater. She is the Canadian
and North American Masters
champion. She also has to her
credit, five Canadian speed skating
records and 10 Ontario records.
Mrs. Hunt explained the sport to
us, including the different moves
used, and the difference between
long-track speed skating and short
track, which is what she does. She
also showed the outfits worn in her
sport, called skinsuits, and the
skates used. With their extra long
`blades they are unlike any other
type- of skates.
She told us about the very
unusual looking activities speed
skaters do in the summer to
strenghten their muscles.
Mrs. Hunt also enlightened us on
the importance and enjoyment of
family fitness. Playing sports and
being active with your family, she
says, is lots of fun and creates
memories of togetherness that will
last a lifetime.
Mrs. Hunt's family is certainly
one that is in motion. All her
children: Carla in Grade 8, Bryce in
Grade 6, Brett in Grade 3, and
for the Legion competition. This
will be held on Feb. 21.
GRADE 4
Mr. Livermore's Grade 4 class is
busy working on their public
speaking.
In social studies, the students are
working on a Huion County Unit.
They are learning what it takes to
survive by means of many good
resources we have in our county
such as agriculture, transportation, ,
occupations, recreation, fishing,
industries and others.
'On Friday, Jan. 26 the Dairy
Princess, Carol Bowman, visited
the Grade 4 room and did all kinds
of special activities on dairy
farming. The students had lots of
fun tasting the different cheese
products.
The Grade 4 class is also learning
to surf the internet.
Cayli in kindergarten, enjoy speed
skating as well as other sports just
like their mother. Mrs. Hunt told us
that one of her favourite sports to
play with her family is pond
hockey. Everyone can play and the
object of the game is to just have
fun. .
Some other sports that Mrs. Hunt
and her family enjoy are skiing,
rollerblading, running, and biking.
Mrs. Hunt brought lots of pictures
of her and her family along, which
demonstrate what family fitness is
really all about. Her photos are
currently on display in the school's
library.
Mrs. Hunt told us that it doesn't
matter what you do to exercise, just
do something. You don't have to be
a professional athlete, either. She
says your muscles don't know that
you can't shoot slapshots like
Wayne Gretzky or slam dunk
basketballs like Michael Jordan.
All they know is they're doing
something and that's good for them.
All people, young and old, should
aspire to be as active as possible.
