The distance-related system which also implements a surcharge to non-paying municipalities, will result in the cost to the village ris- ing to $315 per year, based on 1995 figures. The cost estimate for use in 1995, under the old system, is $90. Representative for Wheels Away, Barbara McDougall, outlined the plan which includes a 25 cent charge per resident plus a $2 fee for each ride, When questioned on who in the village uses the service, McDougall said all riders must meet require- ments set out by the board, but that their names are kept confidential. Paul Ross led the service at Knox United Church, Auburn with Nancy Park as organist. The Invitation to Worship was read alternately and the Opening Chorus was sung. Rev. Ross gave the Prayer of Approach which was followed by the children's song Jesus Came a Child Like Me. Rev. Ross had conversation with the children and the children's chorus was sung. 0 Jesus I Have Promised was Mr. and Mrs. Ell Lapp attended the funeral of her cousin, Mrs. Grace Belore, at Ingersoll on Tuesday, Jan. 30. They called on other cousins, Verne and 011ie Simmons at Verchoyle and his brother and wife Mr. and Mrs. Dick Lapp of London. Mrs. Tena Empey, Mrs. Rita Brown and Mrs. Ethel Ball returned home on Thursday after a week's vacation in Nassau, San Andres. Bud and Laura May Chamney visited last Saturday with Margaret Members of Knox United Church who attended the service at Mitchell with the moderator Marion Best, had a very worthwhile evening. She spoke and asked questions regarding change through the years. She also spoke about her trip to Haiti and told of The first 1996 meeting of Londesboro Happy Gang Seniors was held on Wednesday, Jan. 31 at Londesboro United Church. It began at 12:30 p.m. with a pot luck dinner. Members sang 0 Canada then the guest speaker Cobie Amorall of Goderich, was introduced. She spoke of the retirement home at Goderich called Goderich Place. Mary Peel thanked her. The minutes of October and November meetings were read. Reta Kelland gave the financial report. A vote of thanks was given to Reta Kelland for her work at the euchre tournament. A donation of $800 is going to the hall fund. The next euchre tournament is at the school Friday, Feb. 16. Betty Archambault had a contest, sung and scriptures were read. These were followed by the Doxology. The next hymn was The Light of the World Is Jesus. The sermon was entitled "Where's the Action?" The offering was received by Greg Park, Ell Lapp and for the Sunday School by Jeff Carter and Bill Hayes, then dedicated in song. Rev. Ross pronounced the Benedic- tion and the singing of Amens concluded the service. and Herman Chamney of Windsor, who celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Euchre was played Tuesday evening, Jan. 30, held at the Community Hall. Prizes went to the following: ladies' high, Jane Glousher; low lady, Lillian Appleby; high man, Dennis Penfound; low man (playing as a man), Grace Cart- wright; novelty prize, Tom Hallam. Euchre is played every Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. the small, but very active, church there. At the close of the service she answered various individual questions. The Main Street United Church ladies served beverage and goodies before the crowd went home. which was won by Edythe Beacom, Josie MacGregor and Reta Kelland. Lunch for February is: cake, Margaret Good, Betty Archam- bault; ice cream, June Fothergill; KP duty, Harry Lear, Jack and Phyllis Potter. Duizers greet at United Greeters at Londesboro United Church on Sunday, Feb. 4 were Tom and Marjorie Duizer. Ushers were Harris Snell and Bob Trick. The sermon topic was "Where's the Action?" Parents Without Partners will meet on Thursday, Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Clinton.
