Bulldogs take lead
over Brussels Bulls
It's the battle of the 'bulls' in the
first round of Junior C playoffs as
the Kincardine Bulldogs lead the
Brussels Bulls two games to none
in their best of five series.
Friday night the Bulls travelled to
Kincardine where they were edged
by the home team by 5-2. The
Bulldogs had a good lead going out
of the first, having scored three
goals, while shutting out the Bulls.
Brian Nichol put the visitors on
the board in the second, but. the
team was down once again by three
at period end.
Peter Ryter brought them within
two in the third, but the Bulldogs
kept chipping away scoring more to
keep them ahead by three.
The Bulls lost player Mike
McIsaac, who is out with a broken
arm, following an accident during
The Blyth PeeWee Rep hockey
team travelled to Clifford this past
weekend to compete in the Clifford
PeeWee tournament. The boys
continued their fine play and
brought home the A Championship
trophy.
They opened the tournament on
Saturday with a 6-0 win over
Acton. Dean Wilson and Aaron
Bakker split the shutout in the
Blyth net.
On Sunday the boys met a team
from Kitchener. Blyth put on a
great passing performance and
routed the opposition 9-0. Bakker
earned the shutout for Blyth.
In the A final Blyth met Tiverton.
Tiverton came out skating and gave
Blyth all they could handle the first
period.
The Brussels PeeWee Rep team
took the first two games in their
best-of-five WOAA playoff series
against Howick last week.
On Wednesday, they won by a
4-3 score. Matt Cameron scored a
pair of goals for Brussels with
singles going to Carla Hunt and
Tyler Bragg. Assists went to Brian
Oldfield (two) and Joel Kellington.
On Friday, Brussels played host
and came away with a 7-6 win.
Oldfield and Cameron led the
offensive effort, with four points
each. Goals were scored by Old-
field (three), Cameron, Kellington,
Andy Van Beek and Jason
Armstrong. Assists were awarded
to Cameron (three), Kellington
(two), Oldfield, Van Beek and
Stephen Todd.
Coach Murray Kellington said
the evenly-matched teams played
very well. He gave special mention
to Hunt, Armstrong, Todd, Marc
Fischer and Robbie Kerr who were
Atoms win
The Belgrave Atoms defeated the
Brussels Atom Houseleague team
4-1 last week. Chad Cook tallied
two goals and an assist for
Belgrave, with Ken McCracken
and T.J. Marks accounting for the
other scores.
Belgrave Manager Gord Folkard
commended his team for a good
game and gave special mention to
goalie Matt Cowan, who made
several good saves.
Friday's game.
On Sunday, in Brussels, the con-
test was much tighter as an empty
netter in the third gave the Bulldogs
a badly needed insurance goal.
Chris Lorenz notched one in the
first for the home team, which
ended the period in a tie. After Tim
Beyer drove one home in the sec-
ond, the Bulls went into the third
with a 2-1 lead.
Unfortunately the tenacious Bull-
dogs didn't give up, scoring not
only one to tic, but also the tie-
breaker in the third. Bulls Coach
Charlie Smith pulled the goalie to
spur his team on, but the advantage
worked instead for the visitors who
tagged on one more to go home
victorious by a score of 4-2.
The series continues in Kincar-
dine this Friday night.
Blyth began to take over in the
second and built a 4-1 lead by the
end of the period.
Blyth then played a good
defensive third period to win the
game 5-1.
Pointgetters in the tournament
games were Joel Arthur, one goal,
five assists; Dave Ansley, five
goals, two assists; Bryce Toll, one
goal, one assist; Darrell McDou-
gall, five assists; Drew Corneil,
five goals, two assists; Tyler
Stewart, two assists; Graham
Worsell, two assists; Matt Ander-
son, four goals, five assists; Derek
Cook, two assists; Adam Anderson,
two assists and Shawn Bromley,

In playoff action, Blyth trounced
Zurich 13-2 to take a 1-0 lead in
their best of five playoff series.

squad.
The third game is to be played in
Howick this Wednesday evening.

Help?
The Crusaders goalie looks on helplessly after missing this shot off the stick of his
Palmerston opponent. Luckily for the home side, the puck hit the crossbar and bounced out
of trouble. Fortunately the visitors weren't always so lucky as their hosts came away from
this Saturday night contest as the victors.
Crusaders' McKee breaks tie
The Brussels Crusaders can
finish in either second or third
place and will meet either Drayton,
Palmerston or Arthur in WOAA
Senior A playoff action.
However, until three rescheduled
league games are played this week,
no other information is available.
Saturday night Corey McKee
scored with seven minutes
remaining to break a I-1 tie and
lead the Crusaders to a 4-1 win
over Palmerston.
Dean Wheeler and Dwaine
Nicholls also scored for Brussels,
which holds a 15-6-2 won-loss
record.
Palmerston opened the scoring
early in-the first and held the lead
until late in the second when Greg
Mulvey tied the score.
Last Friday in Arthur, Brent
Vandenakker scored twice and set
up two more for an 8-3 Crusader
win.
Jeff Earl, Nicholls, Steve Fritz,
Tom McDonald, Tim Fritz and
Brian Campbell also scored for
Brussels, who kept a 2-0 first
period lead and led 5-2 heading
into third period action.
Tonight the Clinton Radar are in
town for the final game of the
1995-96 schedule. The game,
sponsored by McCall Livestock
and Brussels Auto Sales, could also
decide the best goaltending award
with Ripley, Brussels, Palmerston
and Wiarton all having a
mathematical chance to claim the
trophy for lowest goals against.
