Brussels Livestock report Veal prices drop $5 as beef hits $68 to $91 range Sales at Brussels Livestock for the week ending Jan. 26 were: fed cattle, 508; cows, 276; veal calves, 234; sheep and goats, 84; and stockers, 706. The market at Brussels Livestock saw fed steers and heifers selling $1 lower. Cows sold steady. On Thursday veal sold $5 lower. We had a light run of lambs that sold on an active trade. On Friday all weights of stockers sold under pressure at prices $2 to $5 lower. There were 339 steers on offer selling from $83 to $87 to the high of $92.50. Twenty-two steers consigned by Cunningham Farms, Lucan, averaging 1,410 lbs. sold for an average of $83.74 with sales to $92.50. Twenty-seven steers consigned by Maurice Coe, Shelburne, averaging 1,330 lbs. sold for an average of $83.98 with sales to $88.75. Forty-four steers consigned by W. B. Pletch Co. Ltd., Rockwood, averaging 1,329 lbs. sold to the high of $88.70. Thirteen steers consigned by Schmidt Brook Farms Inc., Woodstock, averaging 1,489 lbs. sold for an average of $83.52 with sales to $86. Bergsmas earn top producer recognition Bruce and Marie Bergsma, RR1, Londesboro, were recipients of the first-ever "producer of the year" award given by the Huron County Pork Producers Association at its annual meeting in Clinton on Thursday. The Bergsmas were given the award for their work in promoting pork and within the pork producers organization. Given the first award as "retailer of the year" was Metzger's Meats, of Hensall which provided pork and processing for several pork promotions events such as the Zurich Bean Festival. sold for an average of $83.31 with sales to $84.90.
