Brussels Livestock report
Veal prices drop $5 as beef hits $68 to $91 range
Sales at Brussels Livestock for
the week ending Jan. 26 were: fed
cattle, 508; cows, 276; veal calves,
234; sheep and goats, 84; and
stockers, 706.
The market at Brussels Livestock
saw fed steers and heifers selling
$1 lower. Cows sold steady. On
Thursday veal sold $5 lower. We
had a light run of lambs that sold
on an active trade. On Friday all
weights of stockers sold under
pressure at prices $2 to $5 lower.
There were 339 steers on offer
selling from $83 to $87 to the high
of $92.50. Twenty-two steers
consigned by Cunningham Farms,
Lucan, averaging 1,410 lbs. sold
for an average of $83.74 with sales
to $92.50. Twenty-seven steers
consigned by Maurice Coe,
Shelburne, averaging 1,330 lbs.
sold for an average of $83.98 with
sales to $88.75.
Forty-four steers consigned by
W. B. Pletch Co. Ltd., Rockwood,
averaging 1,329 lbs. sold to the
high of $88.70. Thirteen steers
consigned by Schmidt Brook
Farms Inc., Woodstock, averaging
1,489 lbs. sold for an average of
$83.52 with sales to $86. Three
steers consigned by Don Campbell,
Mitchell, averaging 1,191 lbs. sold
for an average of $84.27 with sales
to $85.25. Thirteen steers
consigned by Bruce Robinson,
Freelton, averaging 1,582 lbs. sold
for an average of $77.48 with sales
to $85.
Twenty-four steers consigned by
Murray Forbes Farms Ltd., Clinton,
averaging 1,480 lbs. sold for an
average of $80.57 with sales to
$85. Two steers consigned by Mark
Fisher, Ayton, averaging 1,450 lbs.

signed by J & J Farms, Mitchell,
averaging 1,265 lbs. sold for an

There were 146 heifers on offer
selling from $83 to $86 to the high
of $87.50. Four heifers consigned

averaging 1,193 lbs. sold for an
average of $84.28 with sales to
$87.50. Ten heifers consigned by
Harold Jonker, Orangeville,
averaging 1,090 lbs. sold for an
average of $84.60 with sales to
$85.50. Nine heifers Consigned by
Dave Noble, Glencairn, averaging
1,207 lbs. sold for an average of
$83.04 with sales to $85.25.

Bergsmas earn
top producer
recognition
Bruce and Marie Bergsma, RR1,
Londesboro, were recipients of the
first-ever "producer of the year"
award given by the Huron County
Pork Producers Association at its
annual meeting in Clinton on
Thursday.
The Bergsmas were given the
award for their work in promoting
pork and within the pork producers
organization.
Given the first award as "retailer
of the year" was Metzger's Meats,
of Hensall which provided pork
and processing for several pork
promotions events such as the
Zurich Bean Festival.

weighing 1,625 lbs. sold for
$53.50. Three cows consigned by
Kevin Hackett, Lucknow, averag-
ing 1,278 lbs. sold for an average
of $50.26 with sales to $52. Nine
cows consigned by Dennis Morris,
Kincardine, averaging 1,331 lbs.

There were 16 bulls on offer
selling from $41 to $64.13 to the
high of $80. Three bulls consigned

Verbcrg, Londesboro, averaging
670 lbs. sold for an average of
$74.62 with sales to $88.50. One

Lewis, Clarksburg, weighing 730
lbs. sold for $87.
