9-0 exhibition win

Bulls end season on losing note
The Brussels Bulls finished off
their regular season with two loss-
es, one on Friday night to the Mt.
Forest Patriots and the second at
home on Sunday to the Walkerton
Blackhawks.
Friday's effort netted a 7-2 loss
for the Bulls, while Sunday's game
was a tighter 4-2 finish.
The Bulls Greg Fritz got an unas-
sisted goal halfway through the
first period to get things started.
Then just minutes into the second
period Walkerton tied it up.
Halfway through they notched
another to take the lead, then
tagged on one more at the end of
the period to exit the second with a
two-goal margin.
Each team tagged one more in
the third. Brussels was an empty-
netter off the stick of Dan
Williams, from Darin Alviano and
Cory Bragg.
Bulls President Bob Thomas said
the game was well-played and actu-
ally "much closer than the 4-2
score would indicate."
The Bulls begin playoffs this
weekend. They host Kincardine
Bulldogs on Sunday at 2 p.m.
' The Brussels Novices counted
two wins and a loss in their last
three games. On Tuesday, Jan. 16,
they handed a rough 9-0 defeat to
Wingham in an exhibition contest.
Scott Armstrong led the attack,
with four goals and an assist.
Additional goals were had by Brent
Wheeler (two), Philip Wedow, Rob
Semple and Brandon Blake.
Further assists were awarded to
Blake, Kyle Procter, Tyler Jutzi,
Michael Gamiss and Kelly White.
On Sunday, Jan. 21, the team
took to the ice against Mitchell.
This time, they came up on the

heartbreaking playoff games
against Wallace this past week,
On Wednesday, they were
defeated by a 1-0 score. On
Saturday, they lost 3-0.
Coach Tom Jarrett said that,
despite the losses, he was proud of
short end of a 3-1 score. Blake
scored the goal for Brussels.
Last Thursday, they made up for
that tough loss with a 2-0 triumph
over Blyth. Blake and Armstrong
scored for Brussels, with assists
going to Armstrong and Johnathan
Engel.
Trainer Murray Armstrong
pointed out that the team was
starting to work well together, and
commended their efforts.
The team takes to the Brussels
ice again this Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Blyth Bantams capture title
Blyth Atoms shutout
The Blyth Bantams travelled to
Howick for a one-day tournament
on Sunday, Jan. 21 and came home
with the Finalist trophy.
In their first game, they thrashed
Milverton 7-2. Goals were scored
by Mike Ansley (two), Tyler
Stewart (two), Darryl Bromley
(two) and Mike Courtney. Assists
were credited to Mike Haggitt
(three), Jeff Cowan (two), Darryl
Postma (two) and Jon Kochis.
They took to the ice against
Elma-Logan in their second game,
Brussels Tykes shut out Blyth
5-0 on Jan. 20 and on Jan. 27 they
beat Belgrave Tykes 12-5. Scoring
in the first game was spread evenly
among the Brussels team by Chris
Corbett, Justin Thompson, Kyle
Gibson, and Mathew White.
Getting the shutout in net for
Brussels was Christopher Jutzi.
Also making his first appearance in
a tyke game was Jake Vanbeek
who helped the team to a
convincing win.
In the high scoring second game
it was Mathew White who led the
offence with nine goals, Mitch
Midgets
get by
Milverton
The Brussels Midgets skated to a
5-2 victory against the Milverton/
Elma-Logan squad this past
Wednesday.
Mike Dauphin and Dean Walker
led the scoring with a pair of goals
each, while Paul Cummings added
another. Assists were given to
Corey Newman (two), Clint
Fischer (two), Brett Fischer, Jim
McLean and Jeff Lewington.
Coach Gary Dauphin commend-
ed his team for their strong effort
and ability to keep their cool.
The team opens their playoff
competition this Wednesday at
9 p.m., against Howick.
and this time came away with a 5-1
victory.
Goals were tallied in this contest
by Bromley (two), Stewart, Cowan
and Ansley. Assist were awarded to
Postma (two), Chris Carter and
Bryce Toll.
In the finals, however, their
winning streak was ended by a 6-1
defeat at the hands of a very strong
Lucknow squad. Haggitt scored the
lone Blyth goal, assisted by Kyle
Anderson.
Trainer Gord Haggitt said, "The
Blake, Christopher Jutzi, and Kyle
Gibson all scored one. The defence
kept the high scoring number 37 for
Belgrave to only five goals.
Nathan Prior, Adam Corbett,

their loss to a slow start, as Stephen
was able to put their first three
shorts in the net.
Andrew McDonald, all played
great in both directions. In net
making some timely saves was
Chris Corbett.
The next game is Saturday,
Feb. 3 in Wingham at 10 a.m.
The team starts its OMHA best-
of-seven playoff series, in Cayuga,
this Saturday evening.
The second game will be held, at
the Blyth arena, on Sunday night at
8 p.m.
