Brussels Atoms take 3rd consolation win The Brussels Atoms had a busy schedule last weekend, with four games in three days. On Friday, they played a league game against Zurich, and lost by a close 3-2 score. Nolan Krotz and Joel Hemingway scored for Brussels, with assists going to Hemingway, Tyler Campbell and Scott McDonald. On Sunday, the team travelled to Seaforth for a one-day tournament, and returned home with the consolation championship. In their first contest they lost a very close 5-4 game to London. Tyler Campbell led the Brussels effort, counting in on each of their four goals (two goals and two assists). Brussels PeeWee Reps capture title The Brussels PeeWee Rep team captured the Consolation Championship at a tournament held at Howick this past weekend. The tournament did not get off to a good start, when the team suffered a lopsided 6-0 loss to Wallace. They started to show signs of life in their second game, however, when they defeated Fergus by a 5-1 score. Joel Kellington and Chad Fischer led the Brussels offense, with two goals and an assist each. Andy Van Beek scored the other goal, and further assists were credited to Chris Blake, Matt Cameron and Phil Affolter. In their final game, the strong 'offensive display continued, handing an 11-0 drubbing to the host team from Howick. Nine different players contributed points to the score, with Van Beek and Kellington counting for four points each. Goals were scored by Blake (three), Fischer (two), Stephen Todd (two), Carla Hunt, Robbie Kerr, Cameron and Van Beek. Assists were awarded to Kellington (four), Van Beek (three), Fischer, Kerr, Cameron and Matt McLellan. Matt McCall performed admirably in net throughout the tournament, and earned the shutout in the final game. Coach Murray Kellington said, "With six kids playing sick, we could not have asked for more." Juvies edge Mildmay The Blyth Juveniles won a close 3-2 contest against Mildmay on Sunday. The team started the game with only nine skaters and, as two players had to leave early, had to finish with only seven. Mike Salverda, Benji Hakkers and Mike Heffron scored Blyth's goals. Assists were given to Brian Marks (two), Heffron and Mike DeJong. Coach Neil Salverda commended his players on a very disciplined and well-focused effort. He said, "Given the effort they put out with so few players, they displayed great tenacity." The team closes out its regular season this Sunday at home, against Walkerton at 3:15 p.m. Lee Dilworth also scored a pair of goals. Krotz added two assists. Coach Alan Krotz said the loss was a heartbreaker. "The team failed to capitalize on a number of good chances, and ran into penalty trouble in the third period." The Blyth PeeWee Houseleague team skated to a win during each of their last three games. The first game Jan. 11 against Brussels tallied a score of 10-5 in Blyth's favour. Adam Anderson scooped up half of Blyth 's goals while the rest were scored by Shawn Bromley, Matt Anderson, Joel Arthur and Jeremy Van Amersfoort. Jan. 13 found the PeeWees in Seaforth, where the final score was 7-2. Blyth goals were scored by In their second game, they defeated Hensall 7-0. Goals were scored by Krotz (three), Mark Hunter (two), Dilworth and Campbell. Assists were given to Dilworth (two), McDonald (two), Ken McCallum (two), Campbell, Matt Anderson, Michael Bernard, Jeremy Klassen, Aaron Bakker, Graham Worsell and Bromley. A third game in Blyth, Jan. 18, was a well-played match against Stephen Twp. with Blyth on top again. Goals were scored by Bromley, Derek Cook, M. Anderson and Joel Arthur. Netminders for Blyth are Ryan Lee and Bakker, who do a great job fending off the oppositions shots. Keep up the great work guys! The next home game is 6:45 Jan. 25. Krotz, Darrell McClure, Darryl Houston and Joel Hemingway. In the consolation round, thcy soundly defeated Goderich by a'9-1 score. Campbell and McClure each had a pair of goals, with additional goals going to Hunter, Krotz, Houston, McCallum and Kyle Stephenson. Assists were awarded The Belgrave Tykes split a pair of games this past week. On Wednesday, they defeated Walkerton 9-2. Jeremy Robinson led the offense with five tallies. Additional goals were scored by The Blyth PeeWee Reps picked up three wins over the past week. On Wednesday, Jan. 10, Blyth hosted Milverton which is this district's silver stick representative. Blyth built a 4-1 lead midway through the second period, however Milverton rattled back to make it a 4-3 game at the end of second period. Blyth outscored the opposition 2-1 in the final period to win 6-4. This was perhaps the boys' best played game this season. The team's next two games did not prove to be nearly as exciting. Blyth travelled to Clinton on Saturday and came home with a 15- 1 victory. Blyth hosted Zurich Wednesday, Jan. 17 and trounced the visitors 17-0. Point getters over the three to Hunter (two), Dilworth (two), McClure, Campbell and Bryce Wedow. Coach Krotz commended his team on their success but added, "With two consolation champion- ships preceding this one already, we had been gunning for the "A" side." Scott Phillips (two), Kyle Nixon and Kevin Freiburger. On Saturday, they were defeated 10-2 by a strong Teeswater squad. Robinson scored both Belgrave goals. games were Derek Cook, one goal, six assists; Matt Anderson, five goals, five assists; Bryce Toll, three assists; Darrell McDougall, three assists; Tyler Stewart, three goals, two assists; Graham Worsell, five assists; Shawn Bromley, four goals, eight assists; Jeremy VanAmers- foort, five goals, six assists; Adam Anderson, three goals, six assists; Dave Ansley, six goals, two assists; Mike Bedard, two goals, one assist; Joel Arthur, four goals, nine assists and Drew Comeil, five goals, three assists. With the shutout goalie Dean Wilson lowered his goals against average to 2.25 per game. Blyth travels to Clifford for a tournament Feb. 3-4 and then starts OMHA playoffs. The PeeWees record now stands at 20 wins and two losses.
