Tena Empey shows
Alaskan cruise video
The Women's Institute meeting
was held at the Community Hall on
Thursday, Jan. 18 at 2 p.m. with 19
ladies and one child present.
The meeting began in the usual
manner. Marjorie McDougall was
pianist.
President Tena Empey chaired
the meeting. A reading "Fickled
February" was read by Evelyn Flett
who also read the minutes. Rhonda
Bruxer gave the financial report.
There was a discussion on WI
books, papers and history books.
There will be a meeting on Feb. 5
which anyone can attend.
Roll call was "hand in your
knitted blocks" which go to Zambia
as an ongoing project. Last year
seven societies received a donation
from the Women's Institute and
more were added this year.
Tena Empey spoke and showed a
video on her cruise to Alaska. She
also had books and pictures to
view.
Laura May Chamney spoke on
the WI quilt that was designed and
made. A discussion followed
regarding where it was going.
Mildred Lawlor gave the card
report. The hostesses Marion
Haggitt and Ruth Jardin served a
lunch. There were two contests
which were won by Teresa
Roetcisoender and Mildred Lawlor.
A social half hour was enjoyed.

It Without Using Language of
Human Wisdom". Hymn Jesus
Calls Us was sung.

A popular eatery on County Road
25 at Auburn has undergone
change.
Sabo's Family Restaurant is now
under new management, owned
and operated by John and Heather
Verwey of RR I, Auburn and Tere-
sa Godfrey, a long-time resident of
Auburn, now of Summerhill.
The newly-named Stickers, in
reference to the group's affinity for
darts, will offer a family-style
menu with a few additions to the
selections.
Godfrey, who has many years
experience as a cook, plans to add
items such as ribs and wings to the
menu, which will also include her
well-known lasagna and meatloaf
entrees.
A smorgasbord, featuring five or
six hot meat choices, cold items,
two types of potatoes, vegetables,
salads and fresh baked bread will
be available every Friday evening
from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
As for the Verweys, farmers in
Hullett Twp., purchasing the
restaurant was a chance to try
something different.
Presently laid-off from his job at
the Goderich elevators and expect-
ing a call-back in April, John Ver-
wey says the next few months will
give the group a chance to get used
to the operation of the business.
"I will be looking after the fuel
business, Teresa will deal with the
cooking and Heather will cover
everything in between," says Ver-
wey.
In 16 per cent of all fatal collisions,
excessive speed continues to be the
leading driver action. Other driver
actions, such as failure to yield the
right of way, loss of control and
following too closely, continue to
be the most frequently reported
driver errors.
Huron/Perth Ilzjury Prevention Committee
"We hope to get some help from
our sons Jeremy, 15, and Josh, 13,
as well."
The Verweys also have a five-
year-old daughter, Jessica.
Stickers will be open Monday to
Saturday from 6:30 a.m. until 10
p.m. and on Sunday from 9 a.m.
until 7 p.m.
The phone number remains the
same at 526-7759.
