Coming to the rescue
Through the fundraising efforts of the Blyth Snow Travellers, the Blyth Fire Department now
has a rescue sled for use in rough terrain in both the summer and winter. The sled can be
towed by a snowmobile or an ATV, with wheels attached, to areas not accessible by larger
vehicles. Donating the sled, worth $2,250, to Fire Chief Paul Josling, left, are Snow
Travellers, Paul Kerr, centre, secretary and Hebo Siertsema, treasurer.

briefs
Bernie and Bridget Van Osch of
BVO Services appeared before
Blyth council at the Jan. 15 meet-
ing to make a presentation regard-
ing GIS (Geographical Information
System) mapping.
BVO assists municipalities in
developing their own mapping and
data management of existing ser-
vices and infrastructure within the
municipality. Bernie Van Osch
explained to council that their busi-
ness is the set up of mapping/draft-
ing services and the linking of
information from databases to the
graphics.
Van Osch said that presently they
are assisting Wingham and Wing-
ham PUC with the development of
their own infrastructure informa-
tion system.
Bridget Van Osch then gave a
brief demonstration on computer.
Cost for the computer software is
approximately $10,000, however,
Van Osch said it is not necessary to
have a computer system to start the
project, as mapping could begin
manually, then added at a later
date.
Reeve Bailey thanked the Van
Osches for their presentation.
