The placing of Recyclables creates extra work, Increased expenses and reduces the life of the Landfill Site. Ratepayers are encouraged to use the Recycling Program presently In place In their municipality. The Board of Management has instructed Staff to monitor the situation over the next two months. Please be advised that if Recyclable Material continues to be placed in the Landfill, additional expenses may cause the Board to Implement User Fees. Coming to the rescue Through the fundraising efforts of the Blyth Snow Travellers, the Blyth Fire Department now has a rescue sled for use in rough terrain in both the summer and winter. The sled can be towed by a snowmobile or an ATV, with wheels attached, to areas not accessible by larger vehicles. Donating the sled, worth $2,250, to Fire Chief Paul Josling, left, are Snow Travellers, Paul Kerr, centre, secretary and Hebo Siertsema, treasurer. DID YOU KNOW? Blyth council briefs Bernie and Bridget Van Osch of BVO Services appeared before Blyth council at the Jan. 15 meet- ing to make a presentation regard- ing GIS (Geographical Information System) mapping. BVO assists municipalities in developing their own mapping and data management of existing ser- vices and infrastructure within the municipality. Bernie Van Osch explained to council that their busi- ness is the set up of mapping/draft- ing services and the linking of information from databases to the graphics. Van Osch said that presently they are assisting Wingham and Wing- ham PUC with the development of their own infrastructure informa- tion system. Bridget Van Osch then gave a brief demonstration on computer. Cost for the computer software is approximately $10,000, however, Van Osch said it is not necessary to have a computer system to start the project, as mapping could begin manually, then added at a later date. Reeve Bailey thanked the Van Osches for their presentation. *5* Clerk-Treasurer John Stewart advised council that Blyth would receive $92,626 in the Block Grant Entitlement for 1996, which is a reduction from last year of $29,182. Stewart said a similar reduction will be forthcoming in 1997. *** The unaudited budget report was presented to council. It showed a surplus of $93,462.81. This howev- er, will be changed as the year-end accruals are factored in, Stewart said. *5* Reeve Bailey and Councillor Ron Ritchie will attend the Bluewater Recycling Association general meeting, Jan. 24 at Oakwood Inn, Grand Bend. *5* Council voted to pay $60 in membership dues to the Blyth Business Association. *** Stewart advised council decline membership in the Ontario Munici- pal management Institute at a cost of $84.60 and the Municipal Finance Officers' Association in the amount of $197.95, as he feels that the information from these organizations is available from the Association of Municipalities of Ontario and the Association of Clerks & Treasurers of Ontario. *5* A letter, dated Jan. 6, was brought to council's attention.
