United congregation celebrates baptism
Austin Ronald, infant son of
Tony and Candace Chaffe, was
baptized by Rev. Mary Jane
Hobden in the Belgrave United
Church on Sunday, Jan. 14.
Attending the baptismal service
were relatives and friends. These
included Pat Beckett of Queensville
(grandmother) and Bob and Connie
Chaffe of Mitchell (grandparents),
Hazel Corbett of Hensall (great-
grandmother), Sally Chaffe (aunt)

family skating party at the Belgrave
Arena on Saturday, Jan .20 from 7 -
9 p.m.
Come out and make this a
worthwhile event. It is being spon-
sored by the Arena Board as well
as local businesses.
Justin Campbell and Jimmy
McCracken were overnight guests
at the home of Ryan and Jason Fear
on Saturday, Jan. 6. They had an
enjoyable time. Thanks Ryan and
Jason.
Mrs. Pat Beckett was a weekend
guest of Tony and Candace Chaffe.
Cameron Chaffe, son of Candace
and Tony Chaffe celebrated his
sixth birthday on Wednesday, Jan.
10. Playmates with him were his
brother Brandon and J.D. and
Mathew, son of Doug and Sherry
Shiell.
Mabel's Moms met at their
regular time on Wednesday, Jan.
10. The topic for the discussion
Donna Chaffe (aunt and uncle),
Melissa and Jessica of Mitchell,
Norman and Florence Chaffe of
Mitchell (great-grandparents), Ken
and Lianne Swanson, Glen and
Donna Raynard and Heidi.
Those who were able attended
the church service, but all enjoyed
a delicious lunch at the home of
Tony and Candace Chaffe.
The Chaffes were presented with
a candle from Rev. Mary Jane
Hobden for Austin that they will
light at special times in Austin's life

On Sunday, Jan. 14 Tony and
Candace Chaffe were welcomed to
Knox United Church, Belgrave
through transfer of membership
from Main Street United Church in
Mitchell.
Also welcomed into full
membership within the churches
were the following young people
through confirmation: Calvin Brick
Church, Victoria Ann Black, Renee
Simon Bleeker, Steven Andrew
McBumey; Knox United Church,
Kevin William, Amos Hopf, Adam
Douglas Potter and Timothy Roy
Robinson.
Youths joining the church took
part in the service by reading
scriptures. Hebrew scripture: Isaiah
49 (1-7), Renee Bleeker (Brick
United Church) and Adam Potter
(Belgrave UC); Corinthians 1 (1-9),
Steve McBurney (Brick UC) and
tim Robinson (Belgrave UC); John
I (29-42), Vicky Black (Brick UC)
and Kevin Hopf (Belgrave UC).
The confirmation was performed
by Rev. Mary Hobden by placing
her hand on the confirmands' heads
as well as those of the parents of
each person joining the church.

The first meeting of 1996 of the
Afternoon Unit of the United
Church Women was held Jan. 9 at
the home of Janisa Coultes with 12
members present.
Audrey Fenton opened the
meeting with a short reading
entitled "It Takes Two". The
minutes of the December' meeting
were read and approved. The
treasurer, Lois Chamney repoited
on total givings for 1995 and Kay
Roberts reported for the penny
The Evening Unit of the UCW
met at the home of Muriel Coultes
on Tuesday, Jan. 2 with 19
members present. Barbara
Anderson opened the meeting with
some New Year messages after
which she welcomed everyone. The
worship service was presented by
Irene Lamont and Thelma Pletch
which included hymns, Standing at
the Portal and The King of Love
My Shepherd Is and a meditation
as he or she kneeled.
John McIntosh presented each
one with a certificate as well as a
Bible on behalf of the church.

Mary Hunter was in charge of the
worship service. Kay Roberts
continued on with the book of
Matthew for Bible Study.
Edith Vincent had the Mission
Study. She told about many
different projects and causes the
Mission and Service Fund supports
throughout Canada and the world.
Mrs. Fenton closed with prayer.
Mrs. Coultes served a delicious
dessert, tea and coffee.

The worship service closed with
prayer.
After the business period a
program entitled "The Changing .
Year" was presented by Doris
Michie and Lorna Cook.
The meeting closed with the
Mizpah Benediction and lunch was
served by Mildred Yuill and Annie
Cook.
Community plans skating party
was "bullies at school."
Those attending were Kim
Higgins and Laura; Sherri Sippel,
Christie, Scott and Daniel; Claren
Yuill; Lila Procter and Ben; Donna
Raynard, Trevor and Heidi; Ryan
and Corey Swanson; Sandra
Dorsch and Melinda.
The first meeting of 1996 of the
Belgrave Community Club was
held on Friday, Jan. 5 with 25 ,
present. President Bob Grasby
presided.
The meeting opened with the
singing of 0 Canada, accompanied
by Freda Johnston on the piano.
The minutes of the previous
meeting were read by the secretary
and the financial report was given
by the treasurer. The only January
birthday was Barbara Anderson.
There will be regular shoot parties
on Jan. 12, 26 at 1:30 p.m. and a
dessert shoot party on Feb. 9 at
1 p.m.
