Everybody knows starting an RRSP Is
Important, and contributing regularly
Is Important. Understanding the
power of compounding interest -
earning Interest on your interest - is
also important.
Here's an example. Contribute $1,000
a year for 40 years, for a total of
$40,000.
By reinvesting annual interest (with
an average rate of return of 6%), the
power of compounding yields a final
value of $164,047, with total interest
earnings of $124,047!

THE EDITOR,
The following is an open letter to
the community.
Where do rumors get started? If I
knew the answer to that I'd be a
millionaire.
There seem to be persistent
rumors these days about the closure
of Clinton Public Hospital (CPH).
As chair of the board of CPH, and
on behalf of all the board members,
let me assure you CPH is NOT
going to close at any time in our
foreseeable future.
We are a vital part of this
community and we surely believe
the current provincial government
has a strong commitment to rural
hospitals and rural health care in
general.
Health care and its delivery will
change. We know that current
budget cuts will mean big changes,

Brussels was notified- that Morris
Twp. would not be paying for the
barn fire billing of $900, since
Morris had been advised by the
Wingham and Blyth Fire Chiefs
that that particular call was under
Mutual Aid. Under the County
Mutual Aid policy, the various
departments responding do not bill,
the costs are assumed by the
responding department. That
particular fire was not in the
Brussels First Response area,
however Brussels contacted the
Wingham Department, after
receiving the call; Wingham
Department was busy at another
call and authorized Brussels to
respond, falling under the status of
County Mutual Aid.
Also in that letter, Morris advised
Brussels that a motion was passed
by council stating - "That if the
Brussels Fire Department does not
call the Wingham or Blyth Fire
Departments on receipt of a fire
call, pro rata the agreement within
the Village of Brussels, then
Brussels will not be paid for the
call."
In February, 1993, Morris
entered into an agreement with
Brussels, signed by each party, for
Cranbrook
4-H
meets
By Sarah McLellan
On Jan. 9 the Cranbrook 4-H
club met for its fourth meeting.
The purpose of this meeting was
to visit Zehrs in Listowel for a tour
of the produce section as well as
the bakery.
When we arrived, a Zehrs
employee named Arnold gave us a
complete tour of the produce
section and gave us the low-down
on every type of produce in the
store. After that, we went into the
back to see where all the produce
was stored.
Following this, we headed for the
bakery. There, another Zehrs
employee, Matt, and an adult on
our excursion, Karen Bowles, also
a Zehrs employee, took us on a tour
of the bakery.
Thanks to Zehrs and their
employees for their tour. It was
both informative and fun!
but we as a board are working very
hard to make sure that these
changes will not adversely affect
your health or health care needs. In
fact we have every reason to
believe that changes will make for
a better and more efficient service
to all. It may mean that not all
services will be offer-el in all
facilities in the county and that
could mean a little more travelling
for some patients but fewer miles
for others.
We at CPH are looking forward
•to working closely with the new
District Health Council on its
hospital restructuring committee.
As we enter into these studies,
CPH has many positive aspects, i.e.
our 24-hour emergency department
serviced over 12,000 patients this
year, we deliver 200 babies and our
very modern surgical department
Morris Twp. to purchase fire
protection from Brussels.
The agreement states as follows:
"The Brussels Fire Department is
on a first call basis for the area
outlined on Schedule A, being: The
South Half of Conc. 4, The North
and South Halves of Conc. 5, The
North and South Halves of Conc.
6, and the North Half of Conc. 7
consisting of Lois 21-30 inclusive."
The agreement states that as soon
as the Brussels Firc Department
receives a fire call, Blyth or
Wingham Fire Departments will be
contacted, except when the call
pertains to Huronlea and Highland
Apartments. Upon arrival of Blyth
or Wingham Fire Department, the
Brussels Fire Department will leave
unless requested to remain by
either the Blyth or Wingham Fire
Chief or designate.
The agreement also states that the
Brussels Fire Department is
authorized to respond for
emergency rescue in the fire area as
outlined unless otherwise
authorized by the Wingham or
Blyth Fire Departments. Therefore
if Brussels receives a call for
emergency rescue, they must
contact Blyth or Wingham and
state the call received. If their
response time will be less than
Wingham or Blyth Departments,
does approximately 1,000 proce-
dures. So you can see what a viable
and vital resource we are to this
community. We not only serve the
people of Clinton but also Blyth,
Bayfield, Londesboro, Brucefield
and Walton.
Our presence is important to
many, many people.
And let me brag just a little bit
about our wonderful, hard working
and diligent staff and physicians.
They are always there when we
need them and everyone of them is
"top notch" in my book.
Please help us counter any of the
unfounded and erroneous rumors
that you may heat. Clinton Public
Hospital is alive and well.
Thank you
Marg Makins, Chair,
Board of Directors, CPH.
then the Chief will authorize the
Brussels Department to respond
and Morris will pay the billing for
the two departments to respond.
Brussels had responded to calls
within and outside their agreement
area and not contacting the
Wingham or Blyth Departments.
The Fire Chiefs responsible for
Morris are: for all lands north of
County Road 16, Harley Gaunt of
the Wingham Fire Department or
designate; for all lands south of
County Road 16, Paul Josling of
the Blyth Fire Department or
designate.
Morris Council is pleased that an
agreement was entered into with
Brussels to give the residents in the
closest proximity added fire
coverage. However, because the
Brussels Fire Department does not
have a tanker, they are not _
equipped to fight a fire in an area
not serviced by hydrants. Therefore
the intent of the agreement is to
provide first response from
Brussels until the Wingham or
Blyth Fire Departments, which are
equipped to provide adequate fire
service to rural areas, can respond.
Morris council says the township
will honour the agreement as in the
past and will pay Brussels to
respond to any call authorized by
the Wingham or Blyth Fire Chiefs.
THE EDITOR,
The Londesboro Hall is being
restored by the Londesboro Lions
Club and the people of the
community.
The hall was built in 1922,
destroyed by fire in February 1932,
then rebuilt and opened again in
September 1932.
If anyone has pictures or stories
of the parade that was held on Sept.
1, 1932, we would be interested in
obtaining these and would return
them.
An official opening and
dedication of the hall is planned for
May 1996. Please send pictures or
stories to the undersigned.
