Entrepreneurs graduate from business course
Thirteen students recently
graduated from the 10-week
Introduction to Small Business
course, many of whom plan to
proceed with implementing the
skills they developed. Business
ideas ranged from a cafe featuring
bagels, to a greenhouse and garden
centre and a store featuring men's
and women's fashions and lingerie.
The course, sponsored by the.
Canada Employment Centre was
delivered by the Computer Training
Academy in Clinton. Lead
instructors were Alison Lobb and
George and Pat Morfopoulos,
although numerous guest speakers
added their expertise.
Training was designed so
individuals, considering starting
their own business, could under-
stand and address the many issues
involved in self-employment.
They began the process by
evaluating their original idea in
terms of current business trends
and market influences, and their
own entrepreneurial characteristics.

participants completed computer
training in Windows 3.1 and
Microsoft Works, and were
introduced to the wonders of
Internet.
The development of an idea to a
detailed business plan progressed
slowly and during the evolvement
of the course, several participants
modified their original idea
significantly. Some even
determined that -their plans were
not viable at-this time.
A local graduate, Laura Hoggart
of Londesboro along with her
husband, is ultimately considering
expanding their hobby of crafting
fine furniture and wood products
such as cabinet, wall units, vanities
into a full-time business.
