IN THE VILLAGE OF
BRUSSELS
1996 Dog tags are now available at the Municipal office. All
dogs must be licensed according to By-Law #2-1996, being a
by-law to license dogs and prohibit the running at large of
dogs.
The owner shall within 10 days of becoming such owner, and
thereafter on or before the 28th (29th) of February In each year
cause such dog to be again licensed for one year from the 1st
day of January In the office of the Village Clerk.
The fee schedule shall be as follows:
a) If the dog is male or a spayed female, a fee of $12.00
b) If the dog is a female, a fee of $14.00
c) for a second female, a fee of $19.00
d) for a second male, or spayed female $14.00
e) for a pit bull, or a pit bull cross, a fee If $100.00
PROOF OF RABIES VACCINATION MUST BE
SHOWN AT TIME OF PURCHASE!
This by-law requires dog owners to forthwith remove
excrement left by the dog anywhere in the municipality of the
Village of Brussels. Any person contravening this provision
shall pay a $50.00 administration fee.

Brussels Sparks program here to stay
Sparks a pre-Brownie program
started over five years ago with just
five year olds. This fall the
program expanded to include six-
year-olds.
The girls meet once a week and
promise to share and be a friend.
The Spark program is for Fun and
Friendship. The program is
presented through three program
4-H meets

On Thursday, Jan. 4 the
Cranbrook Kitchen Kuties held
their third meeting of the "Power of
Produce".
The meeting opened with the 4-H
pledge and then they did the roll
call. After the roll call they decided
on the date of the next two
meetings, as well as the achieve-
ment day. The next meeting will be
Jan. 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the Grey Twp.
shed. Members will then proceed to
Listowel to tour the produce
department at Zehrs.
The second meeting will beheld
on Jan. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Grey
Twp. shed to plan the achievement
day, which will be held on Jan. 27
at 1:30 p.m. at the Cranbrook Hall.
After this they made BTO Pizza,
Autumn Vegetable Stir-Fry,
Fruitful Crepes, and Basic Crepes.
All the dishes were tested and the
meeting was closed with the 4-H
motto.
Brussels Tykes lost to Clinton 1
on Saturday, Dec. 23 by a score of
7 - 3. Scoring for Brussels was
Mathew White and Chris Corbett
and assisting on the goals were
Kyle Gibson, Mitch Blake, and
Cory Chapman.
On Saturday, Dec. 30 Brussels
won against Wingham by a score of

Activity based meetings developed
around theme encourage and
provide new and different
opportunities for the five and six-
year-olds. Sparks is designed to
encourage girls to try new things,
to share and co-operate and prepare
them for their future in Guiding.

Seven tables of euchre were
played at the Majestic Women's
Institute card party on Jan. 2.
Lucky prize winners were: high
lady, Viola Adams; low lady, Iona
McLean; high man, Jim Smith; low
man, Ken Barbour; travelling lone
hand prize, Jim Smith; birthday
closest to July 31 was Helen Dobson.
Tally prize winners were George
Laverty, Isabelle Craig, Richard
Lindberg, Ida Evans, Jeanne
Ireland, Stewart Musgrove, Mary
Huether, Reinhardt Bauer, Keith
Turnbull, Laura Barbour, Verna
Tunney and Lourdes Genosa.
The next card party will be held
on Feb. 6 at 8 p.m. in the Brussels
Library.

Chapman with four, and with two
goals each was Adam Corbett,
Chris Corbett, and White. Assisting
on these goals with some terrific
passing were Andrew McDonald
and Adam McClure.
On Saturday, Jan. 6 Brussels
fought haid against Goderich but
came up short by a score of 4 - 2.
Scoring for Brussels was Chris
Corbett with two and assisting were
Andrew McDonald, Tom Cronin,
and Christopher Jutzi.
On Sunday, Jan. 7 Brussels won
convincingly over the smaller

Brownies now for seven and
eight-year-olds has also started
their new program — for fun and
adventure. They will be learning
the new program through three
areas — people, the outdoors and
today and tomorrow. The goals for
the program reflect the social,
emotional, physical and intellectual
aspects of the girls development.
From this base, the more specific
program objectives are formed.
The girls will earn new, colourful
insignia representing the Windows
and Outlooks as they progress
through their program. When the
girls leave Brownies, they will
receive the Fun and Adventure Pin,
and onto Guides they will go.
The guides now nine to 12-year-
olds do their own thing. They have

three levels of challenge.
Encountering, learning
something for the first time;
exploring, the new skill they have
learned and discovering, many
things about what they have
learned and passing it on to others.
The girls will follow four
pathways, my community, my
outdoor environment, my horizon
and my future. Once each level is
finished the girls will earn an
emblem for their uniform.
Pathfinders are girls 12 to 15
years of age. These girls participate
in many exciting challenges.
Brussels has all four groups this
fall. There are nine Sparks
registered, 12 Brownies, seven
Guides and one Pathfinder. This
week they are selling the fall
campaign of Chocolate Mint
Cookies.
