Exchange pastor preaches final Blyth sermon Blyth United Church was filled to capacity this past Sunday, Dec. 31 as Rev. Ian Diamond, the exchange minister from Australia, gave his final sermon here. Greeters were Bill and Susan Howson. Organist was Phyllis Boak. Shirley Vincent was pianist. Campbell Diamond, son of Rev. Diamond, entered the church with his father and placed the Bible on the pulpit. Rev. Diamond opened with Call to Worship, announcements and Words of Welcome, welcoming everyone to the last Sunday of worship in 1995. The sacrament of baptism followed. Jill Walden lit the baptismal candle. Ashley Maria The Christmas message was carried through the service at Auburn Missionary on Sunday, Dec. 24 when Virginia Stright, Lorraine Came and Pastor Came sang, as a trio, The Wonderful Love of My Wonderful Lord. Pastor Carne's message "Home for the Holidays" had scripture from Luke 2: 1-7 and Luke 15: 3-6. In verse 7 it tells 'no room in the inn'. Pastor Came said, there are many who won't be home for Christmas, such as soldiers on active duty, nurses and care workers, and even street kids. Jesus was not home for Christmas because there was no room in the inn. He came to His own people and they rejected Him. Why wasn't Jesus home for 0 bituaries HARRY F. TEBBUTT Harry F. Tebbutt, formerly of Hullett Twp. and Clinton, passed away at Seaforth Manor Nursing Home on Dec. 16, 1995. Born Winnipeg, Manitoba on April 16, 1912 to Horace and Lilian (Howell) Tebbutt, he retired from the RCAF in 1945, moved to Clin- ton then to Hullett Twp., where he farmed until his retirement. Mr. Tebbutt was also a member of the Londesboro United Church. Mr. Tebbutt was a secretary for Hullett Twp. and the Hullett Twp. school board as well as bookkeeper for Manning Lumber in Blyth. In 1969, he served as the Wor- shipful Master of Hullett Twp. Masonic Lodge #568 and was the District Deputy Grand Master of the North Huron District in 1980. He was the beloved husband of Jessee R. Fender, who predeceased him in 1988, and the loved father of Marsha Kerr of Goderich. Mr. Tebbutt is survived by four grandchildren, one great-grand- daughter and a sister, Ivy Thomp- son of Surrey, B.C. He was predeceased by four brothers and one sister. Rev. Paul Ross of Londesboro United Church officiated at the funeral service on Dec. 19, from Tasker Chapel, Beattie-Falconer Funeral Homes, Blyth. Interment at Hope Chapel Ceme- tery, Hullett Twp. A memer;31 service was held by the Hullett Masonic Lodge AF&AM #568. Walden, daughter of Tim and Maria Walden (Verburg) was baptized. Lorna Fraser, clerk of session then presented her to the congregation. Let there be Peace on Earth was sung by a trio, Jill Walden, Garth Walden and John McDowell, accompanying themselves on piano and guitar. Rev. Diamond delivered an inspiring final sermon entitled "Jesus came to save.... us!" He made reference to the Christmas Carol God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen saying it was probably better suited to after Christmas. "We used to sing it with gusto but now it seems to have disappeared in recent years. The Christmas? He wasn't at home because we weren't at home, Pastor Carne said. By nature we are alienated from God and many people are even uncomfortable being in church. The lost sheep is the story of us all, he said. When the sheep are not home neither is the shepherd for he is out looking for the sheep. We are like the lost sheep, Pastor Carrie said. "If Jesus has not come into your life you are not at home." Many families will be complete in numbers but not at home with respect, harmony and also criticizing one another about their attitude, he said. "Jesus was not at home for Christmas because He brought us home. Jesus is the Way, the Truth LLOYD ROSS RUTTAN Lloyd Ross Ruttan of Belgrave, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 23, 1995, at Wingham and District Hospital in his 67th year. He was the loving father of Larry Ruttan of Belgrave and Gloria and Bert Van de Kemp of Strathroy, and the loved grandfather of Nicko- lai, David, Jonathan, Anson, Elissa and Hannah. Who of our sophisticated community really admits to 'being in Satan's Power or 'going astray'?" In conclusion, Rev. Diamond said, that's what Christmas is all about. The coming of Jesus into the world, the world of prejudice, strife, self interest and abuse. "That is only when we peer over the manger, the face we see is of the one who saves." "When we go from here, on the eve of a new year, let us take heart. It is clear that He did not come to help angels!" and the Life and only by Jesus can people come to the Father." Those who are with the Lord now are at home for Christmas. The congregation members were pleased to have some of the young people home for the holidays: Kim Baan from Conestoga College, Kitchener; Jeffrey Bowman from Radio College of Canada, Toronto; Rob Campbell from Agricultural College, Kemptville; and Susan Dobie from Emmanuel Bible College, Kitchener; also Dale Nott Emmanuel Bible College, Kitchener. They also welcome home Marcy Stoll from Norman Wells, North West Territories and her fiancee, Mark. of Margaret Finlay of Lucknow and the late Janet Ashton (1970) and Nellie Ruttan (1967). Rev. Jeff Hawkins officiated at the service from Betts Visitation Centre, Gorrie on Dec. 27. Spring interment will take place at Wroxet.:3- Cemetery, Wroxeter. A Christmas quiz concluded the meeting. Kay served a lovely lunch and a social time was enjoyed. Diamond had a warm welcome to all the Verburg families from the Christian Reformed Church in Blyth. Bev. Snell, chair of Session, read a letter from Rev. Stephen Huntley in Bowral, Australia, who says he is anxious to get back home despite leaving 30° weather "down under", to come here to the cold, snowy weather. In closing Rev. Diamond said it's been a marvellous experience for him, his wife Kay and sons. He was fatigued and weary from a challenging strain in his home parish and said that in just a short space of time he was given, from this congregation, vast reserves of goodwill, grace and love. Following the service, a lunch and social time was held in honour of the "Diamonds" Ian, Kay, Elliott and Campbell.
