Hort. Soc. elects new executive
On Tuesday, Dec. 5, the 1996
executive members for Blyth
Horticulture Society were installed
by John Stewart.
Harvey Snell remains as
President. Other positions are: first
vice-president, Dan McInnes;
second vice-president, Dan Taylor;
treasurer, Deanna Snell; secretary,
During his report to Blyth coun-
cil at the Dec. 18 meeting, Blyth
Fire Chief Paul Josling stated that
the department is looking at pur-
chasing a new rescue truck, at an
approximate cost of $140,000, in
the new year.
"A grant of $40,000 has been
applied for and it is hoped the res-
cue truck would arrive by Septem-
ber," says Josling.
The vehicle presently being used
is overloaded and unsafe to drive,
particularly in high winds, he says.
After questions from council
regarding a reserve fund, Josling
says other municipalities started a
fund 1 1/2 to two years ago, how-
ever, it was determined Blyth had
not.
Blyth's share of the rescue truck
will be about $19,000.
In support of the Blyth Fire
Department, Reeve. Mason Bailey
and Councillor Doug Scrimgeour
expressed their pleasure with the
well-equipped department and its
work, though suggested the hit of
$19,000 was a surprise.

Josling told council the emergen-
cy plan for the village is now in
draft copy and is being checked by
an agency in London.
