Saturday, December 23rd Goderich Pirates vs Brussels Crusaders Sponsor: B& H Mechanical Saturday, December 30th Ripley Wolves p vs CID Brussels Crusaders Sponsor: Bill Scott Construction Brussels Atoms blank Monkton The Brussels Bantams completed a six game segment of their schedule over the past two weeks and hold a 3 win - 9 loss record heading into the Christmas holidays. The Bantams were shutout twice on home ice, 8-0 by Mitchell and 12-0 by Blyth, as well as dropping a 9-2 decision in Milverton. Cory Bragg and Jeremy Clark scored for Brussels with assists by Matthew Shortreed and Jason Kellington. Tuesday the Bantams returned from Elma-Logan with a 7-5 win and broke their scoreless streak on home ice the next night with a 10-1 over Seaforth. Bragg led the scoring with five goals and two assists in the wins while Clint Fischer scored four and set up one. The struggles continued for the Brussels Bulls this past weekend with two losses in Junior C hockey action. On Friday, the team came up with a huge loss against the hosting Wingham Ironmen. Scoring for Brussels in this 9-2 trouncing were Tim Beyer and Brandon Alviano. On Sunday afternoon the Bulls hosted the last place Wiarton Wolves and missed a close 3-2 decision. Brian McNichol and Steve Henderson scored for Brus- Belgrave slides by Stephen The Belgrave Atoms defeated a strong Stephen Township team 3-2 this past week. Chad Cook led the attack with two unassisted goals. Scott Folkard added another, assisted by T.J. Marks and Matt Rochetta. Manager Gord Folkard was glad his team won, but said, "They looked a hale lazy and will have to give luck a bit of credit for helping them in their victory." Chad Fischer and Jason Kellington each scored two and set up two, with single goals by Mike Cooper, Jeremy Clark, Sam Zahnd, and Joel Kellington. Kevin Mutter added four assists while Darrell Dalton, Zahnd, Clark and Trevor Wilson had two each. Saturday night Wilson opened the scoring in an 8-I loss to Mitchell. Despite the score Coach Hugh Nichol says the Bantams played an excellent game considering they lost five of 12 players late in the second period and played two men shorthanded (with one substitute) for the opening seven minutes of third period play. Goderich is in town for a 7:30 start Wednesday night. sels. Coach Charlie Smith, who took over the bench just a little over a week ago, had little to say about the outcomes, adding that he is still try- ing to get a feel for the club and their strengths and weaknesses. The Bulls next home game is Thursday, Dec. 28 at 8:30 p.m. against Mt. Forest. This Friday they travel to Kincardine to meet the Bulldogs. The Brussels Atoms glided away with two victories in out-of-town hockey action this past week. The players were not very pleas- ant guests for a hosting Monkton team on Dec. 14, coming home with a 9-0 victory. Brandon Dixon got things started in the first with a hand from Sean Hoegy. In the second period the team added two with Joel Heming- Tykes down Bayfield Bayfield Tykes got off to a great start against Brussels in their recent hockey action, scoring three straight unanswered goals, but then it was all Brtissels. Leading the scoring for Brussels with a natural hat-trick was Chris Corbett. Also scoring for Brussels was Adam Corbet, Justin Thomp- son, Cory Chapman, and Mathew White. Picking up assists were Chase Chapman, Cory Chapman, and Chris Corbett. In net for Brussels was Nathan Prior, who ensured the victory by making some terrific saves and not allowing any rebounds. Evenly spread talent and great team work was the reason Brtissels was able to come from behind to win. "Everybody would agree this was the best game yet," said the coaches. Novices lose 2 The Brussels Novice team engaged in two losing efforts this past weekend. On Friday, Elma Logan defeated them 10-5. Scott Armstrong scored four goals in the losing cause, three of which were unassisted. Brandon Blake added another goal and an assist. On Sunday, Mitchell defeated them 6-1. Blake scored Brussels' lone goal in that effort. Atoms tumble The Blyth Atoms losva tough 2-1 game to Goderich II this past Saturday. After Goderich took a 2-0 lead, with goals at 7:11 of the first and 0:23 of the second, Cole Stewart scored for Blyth, assisted by Nick Courtney, at 10:41 of the final period. Unfortunately, the comeback was not meant to be. Despite several opportunities in the final five minutes, which included a couple of powerplays and hit goalposts, the Goderich defense held on for the win. way scoring his first of four, assist- ed by Jeff Linton and Daniel Cameron, getting the second. Brit- tany Kellington had the assist on the Cameron point. Goalie Brooklyn Wheeler held off the home team to earn the shut out, while the offense kept the onslaught coming to add six more before the game ended. Hoegy set up Hemingway, then Tyler Campbell snuck one between the Monkton pipes unassisted. Hemingway got his hattrick, then Kyle Stephenson handed off to Kellington who nudged it home. Hemingway scored his final shot at the 2:17 mark, 'with an assist going to Dixon. Then with seconds left in the game, Campbell got his second off a pass from Cameron. The strong play continued two days later when the team travelled to Zurich and came home with 7-2 decision. Dixon led the scoring with four this time, two of them unassisted, while other goals went to Hoegy, Hemingway and Mathew Clarkson. Assists were creditted to Hem- ingway, Clarkson, Linton, Cameron and Kellington. Ironmen bomb Bulls 9-2
