JK, SK enjoy fun week at school
JK AND SKs WEEK OF FUN
By Jolene Coburn
This week the JK and SK class
had some fun.
On Monday JKs Marvellous Me
was Brett Courtney. Tuesday, SKs
Kyle deGans was Marvellous Me.
Wednesday Marvellous Me was

was Pat Walsh. On Friday

supervisory officer position,
whether it be through attrition or
reassignment. Included in the
motion was a suggestion to begin
the process of 'contracting in' the
cost of salaries and benefits for
1996.
Both trustees expressed the con-
cern that the elimination of another
supervisory officer (already
reduced from six to four) could
compromise the situation as it
impacts on students and schools.
The supervisors are needed to
deal with the complexities of run-
ning the board and to underwrite
grant proposal, says Van den
Broeck. "These cannot be passed
on to others because of the legal
nature of the applications.
"This would be an inappropriate
action to take at this time and it
would be a disservice to the stu-
dents."
The board endorsed an approach
to encourage revenue generation
from alternative sources. A policy,
to be developed no later than
March 1996, will provide specific
Marvellous Me was Dean Linner.
If you are asking what
Marvellous Me is, well I will tell
you. "Marvellous Me is a special
day for that special person," Colton
Durie told me, "and everyone gets
to be Marvellous Mc because
everyone is special!"
Each week the JK and SK classes
have a special colour. This week's
colour is Purple.
guidelines for entrepreneurial activ-
ities and business partnerships.
The financial effect on local tax-
payers due to the removal of Junior
. Kindergarten will be analyzed in an
impact statement.
To deal with the almost 80 per
cent of the budget which goes to
salaries, immediate action will be
taken to establish an early retire-
ment incentive program in an effort
to avoid layoffs during the upcom-
ing periods of significant expendi-
ture reduction.
It was recommended by the
board that the Education Centre be
listed for sale, rent or lease and that
any recommendations related to use
of the building or alternative
arrangements of the operation of
board functions be subject to
review by the Management Com-
mittee for consideration by the
board.
HCBE will appeal to the Minister
of Education and Training to
ensure that the reduction of transfer
payment takes into consideration
the special difficulties of low prop-
erty tax assessment boards, which
Christmas is coming soon so the
Kindergarten class is making
reindeers and singing reindeer
songs.
JK and SK love to paint. Right
now they are painting winter things
like snowmen and slides. There are
a lot of fun activities here in the
kindergarten class. The MOST fun
activities are the building blocks,
the sand table, and the computer.
are now spending far below the
provincial average.
As a universal measure to cut
expenditures and continue fiscal
responsibility, the board adopted a
detailed cost management model.,,
In conjunction with cost manage-
ment, the board invited employee
groups to begin discussions with
the Executive Committee and
standing committees, to define
strategies to achieve the target cost
reductions.
Employees will be given the
incentive of job protection for
existing employees, wherever cost
reductions can occur through the
restructuring of the staff component
of the organization.
Wherever possible, a portion of
savings from the operating costs in
any sector will be reapplied to that
sector, as an incentive to support
the supplies, services and equip-
ment of school programs.
As well savings would be used to
reduce, wherever possible, the cash
reduction requirement from the
staffing side of the budget.
In gym JK and SK love to play
Duck Duck Goose, What time is it
Mr. Wolf, and they like to roll
around on the Scooters.
I bet that the JK and SK class had
a lot of fun this week, and they
can't wait for next week to come!
Did you know the term
"Xmas" is not an attempt to take
Christ out of Christmas?
Actually, it is merely an abbre-
viation of the word itself. The X
in Xmas is the Greek letter Chi,
the first letter of Christ's name
when written in that language.
This simple abbreviation dates
back to about the 12th century.
