Teachers oppose a college of teachers
With resounding support, the
Huron County high school teachers
voted 98.7 per cent against the
establishment of a college of teach-
ers.
The vote, held Nov. 27 at the
Exeter Recreation Centre, resulted
in 221 ballots cast against the gov-
ernment initiative with only three
votes in support.
"The members of the Ontario
Secondary School Teachers' Feder-
ation District 45 have given a clear
message they are against the cre-
ation of a bureaucracy that will cost
between 15 and 20 million dollars
annually," says OSSTF District 45
Officer John Clarke.
In seeking governmental support,
the teachers took their message to
Huron MPP Helen Johns office,
demanding she represent their view
in parliament and respect their vote.

Erasers return
from Jamaica
We welcome home Doug and
Marjory Fraser, who spent a week
in Jamaica. While most of us were
shovelling snow and freezing, this
couple was enjoying the 87°
weather. They were informed a
week before they left for their trip
that the hotel that they had booked
had been sold, but not to worry for
their agent had them booked in
another hotel. Well it turned out
that when they got there the hotel
was full so they were settled into
another one. They were rewarded
for all the run around with free
meals for the duration of their stay.

Dianne and Andrew VanVliet
were greeters at Duff's United
Church on Dec. 3, White Gift
Sunday. The church was well
decorated by Don and Monique
Baan and Jeff and Shannon
McGavin.
Brad Finlayson led the
congregation in the Call to
Worship. Kevin Wilbcc then aided
the congregation with the Prayer of
Approach.
A new Advent song was sung to
the tune of Away in a Manger, then
Andrew and Sarah McDonald,
along with their mother Linda, read
the Advent liturgy and lit the First
Advent Candle.
Psalm 72 was read responsively
with Shannon Gibbons as the
leader. The White Gift Drama was
then presented by the Sunday
School. Ang Marcuccio was the
storyteller, Gloria Wilbee, the
adult, Kelly McDonald, Geoffrey
Banks and Amanda Mitchell were
the children and Patty Banks was
the White Gift Clown with her
assistant clown, Cassandra Banks.
Following the play Sarah
McDonald, Scott McDonald,
everyday for five minutes but one
day it rained seven inches. He
noted that the Jamaican people are
very religious and most of them
take time to go to church.
Although the attendance was low
at the Walton Hall dance on Friday,
fun was had by all.
Winners of the door prizes were:
Marjory Fraser, Don Nolan, Mary
Humphries, Warren Wray and Mrs.
Wilson. The next dance will be in
January.
Rick McDonald celebrated his
40th birthday with a party down at
the Walton Hall on Saturday.
Around 50 guests showed up to
help Rick celebrate.
Darrell McClure, Jennifer McClure
and Cassandra Banks all took part
in the White Gift Litany.
Communion was then served by
Ian Wilbee, Jim Mann, Leona
McDonald and Margaret Craig.
The people who attended the Ron
Klusmeier event, 'When God was a
Child' were richly blessed with his
music and words. Rev. Randy
Banks welcomed Ron to Duff's
United, then Graeme Craig and
Don McDonald sang, When God
was a Child.
Ron introduced the people to a
few new songs and told about the
different authors and how some of
the songs came about.
The choir sang, Flowers will
Bloom in the Desert which was one
of the songs that he wrote the
music to. Gloria Wilbcc sang two
numbers, One Small Child and
Heirloom. Becky Brown made her
debut singing All I Want for
Christmas.
The service ended with the
singing of a few carols that were
chosen by the audience accom-
panied on the piano by the very
gifted and talented Ron Klusmcicr.
