THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 6, 1995. PAGE 13.
The Blyth PeeWee Reps
competed in the Royal Canadian
Legion Zone C-1 tournament this
past weekend in Blyth. Grouped in
a division with six teams, Blyth
won three straight games for the
win, giving them the right to move
on to the District "C" Tournament
in Durham on Saturday, Jan. 6.
Blyth opened the tournament
against Brussels, scoring four times
in the first period and then coasted
to a 9-0 victory. Aaron Bakker and
Dean Wilson combined for the
shut-out.
Blyth then faced Lucknow,
which turned out to be perhaps the
most exciting game of the
tournament. The teams traded goals
in the first period and Blyth took
the lead midway through the
second, only to have Lucknow
score twice to take a 3-2 lead into
the final frame.
Blyth scored with seven minutes
The Blyth Juveniles split two
close games this past weekend.
On Friday, they travelled to
Elma-Logan and came up on the
short end of a 3-2 score. Mike
Bromley scored Blyth's first goal,
assisted by Jamie Bromley.
Their second and final goal was
scored by Mike Heffron, with an
assist going to Greg Blok.
Coach Neil Salverda said the
game was a frustrating one for his
team, characterized by very chippy
and physical play. He did commend
two Midget call-ups, Blok and
Greg Toll for a fine effort.
On Sunday they made up for
their loss two days earlier,
defeating Paisley 4-2.
Blyth's first two goals were
scored by Mike Salverda, and
assisted by Heffron and Mike
Bromley.
Bromley scored the third goal,
with assists awarded to Chris
Howson and Mike deJong.
Blyth's final goal was scored by
Grant Jarvis. Assists on that goal
to go to tie the game and then
potted the winner with four minutes
left to take a tough 4-3 win.
Blyth then had to meet Hensall-
Zurich in the final, one hour later.
The boys remained fired-up and
came out flying to post five first
period goals and went on to win
11-3.
Blyth's defensive game came up
big in the wins, with goalies
Bakker and Wilson steady in the
nets and the defence core of Darrell
McDougall, Shawn Bromley,
Bryce Toll, Tyler Stewart and
Graham Worsell playing excellent
in their end of the ice. Two hard-
working forward lines supplied the
offensive punch throughout the
tournament. Point-getters in the
tournament were Dave Ansley six
goals, two assists; Joel Arthur, four
goals, three assists; Jeremy Van
Amersfoort, one goal, five assists;
were credited to Benji Hakkers and
Chris Stewart.
Coach Salverda was very
impressed with the effort he saw in
this game, because only two lines
were used. The team showed great

Lewington and Paul Cummings.

a total team effort. The players

Coach Gary Dauphin was very
pleased with the well-rounded
effort put forth by his team. "The
Zurich team was very talented; and
thus the victory was quite
rewarding," he said.
Despite an oustanding effort by
Brussels Bulls goalie, Ryan Fisk on
Friday night, the hometeam was
unable to come out on the winning
end against the visiting Kincardine
Bulldogs.
Coach Mike Henry creditted Fisk
with a job well-done, and blaming
the 6-0 loss on the support of his
teamamtes. "He just didn't get
much help," said Henry.
Assistant Coach Jim Bridges was
behind the bench for Sunday's
game in which the club squeaked
out a 4-3 victory against the win-
less Wiarton Wolves.

Blyth struck first with a handoff
from Tyler Kernighan to Nathan

Henry, who was unable to be at
Sunday's contest, told The Citizen
Monday that he was resigning as
head coach, citing minor conflicts
within the organization and pres-
sures on his personal life as the rea-
son. Discussing the difficulties he
has had in bringing key players into
the organization, Henry said, he
was tired of "hitting walls and
stumbling blocks."

starts to interfere with career and
homelife it's time to seep out. I have

Sean Hoegy and Devon Blake.
Campbell put them into the lead
with an unassisted goal at 9:37.
Unfortunately for the Brussels
team, Stephen scored at 2:54, and
were able to come away with a tie.
Coach Merle Hoegy said the
game was close and well-played by
both teams.
Trainer Murray Armstrong said
that, even though they have not
won a game yet, the team is
showing improvement with each
