Ark begins SAFE program
In renewing their mandate for
1996, Ark workers have set sub-
stance abuse as the focus for the
coming year.
Implementing SAFE (substance
abuse free environment), Ark staff
will be involving youth in a fun,
action-packed, information-filled
eight-week program for pre-teens
and early teens (10-15).
The focus will be on teaching
young people to make their own
informed decisions and resisting
peer pressure through practising
ways of handling situations.
Having witnessed an increase in
substance experimentation at an
earlier age, particularly with
females, Ark Manager Sallianne
Patch believes they need to take
action and deal with the problem.
The Ark will run sessions for the
two age groups alternately through-
out the year. A pre-teen course is
presently being offered.
The Ark has also received its
charitable number, permitting
receipts for any donation over $10.
