The steering committee is in
place, several community organiza-
tions have offered financial or
physical assistance and applications
are being filed. The Blyth Commu-
nity Greenway Project is underway.
Eighteen interested people gath-
ered, Nov. 21, to discuss the next
step in the project and listen to pub-
lic input regarding the proposed
project.
In detailing some information
from a previous meeting, Phil
Beard from the Maitland Valley
Conservation Authority said much
of the work would focus on the old
rail bed, with the greenway running
from the Stedm Threshers Park to
the brook, then east to the arch.
Verbal commitments have been
received from the Blyth Lions
Club, Horticultural Society, Opti-
mists, and Snowtravellers. The
Masonic Lodge has offered volun-
teer labour and financial support
while the Boy Scouts were interest-
ed in assisting the Optimists with
fish habitat rehabilitation work.
Each group would be allowed to
submit their ideas. These, along
with input fro,'. adjacent landown-
ers, would be considered for the
development of a conceptual plan
for the project, said Blyth Council-
lor Doug Scrimgeour.
"This is a really good project
which I have wanted to do for a
At the Nov. 20 meeting of Blyth
council, Councillor Gerald Kerr
reported that a committee had met
with suppliers of decorative light-
ing, who had strongly recommend-
ed the aluminum light standards
over the cement ones.
Prices will be obtained from vari-
ous companies for the aluminum
standards.
Clerk-Treasurer John Stewart
advised council that he had spoken
to Jim Walker from the Ministry of
Transportation. He said that the
ministry wishes to have some input
into the decision to install the deco-
rative lighting from Drummond St.,
north to the bridge.

long time. It is now full speed
ahead," he says.
The committee has to talk to the
people to see what they want and
what they don't want, says Scrim-
geour. "We have had z lot of good
strong comments in support and a
few negative one."
Some ideas expressed by the
group included playground equip-
ment, walking trails, parking areas,
flower beds and use by snowmo-
biles, only in terms of motorized
vehicles.
Murray Siertsema stated he
would be interested in developing a
portion of his own property to
make it more attractive and Harm
Thalen did not want playground
equipment placed next to his lot.
Thelma Johnston said the area
west of Hwy 4 needed to be
cleaned up and several dead trees
removed.
If fish habitat improvement is to
occur, Blyth Clerk-Treasurer John
Stewart suggested a service group
apply in the immediate future, to
the Ministry of Natural Resources,
for funding.
Siertsema will approach the Opti-
mists about the project.
The steering committee, consist-
ing of Siertsema, Scrimgeour,
Beard, Stewart, John Elliott, Doug
Howson and Dave Lee, held a
walking tour on Nov. 25 to become
more familiar with the area.
Council instructed Stewart to
draft for review a revised procedu-
ral bylaw using Colborne Twp.'s
format.
