`Me & My Girl'
takes
Centre stage
For the past 47 years, Kitchener-
Waterloo Musical Productions has
presented musical theatre in the
community. This year is no
exception with the presentation of
Me and My Girl at Kitchener's The
Centre In The Square.
Five performances are scheduled:
Nov. 16, 17, 18 at 8 p.m. and Nov.
18 and 19 at 2 p.m.
Directed by Alex Mustakas, Me
and My Girl is the irresistible, tune-
filled story of an irreverent
Lambeth cockney, Bill Snibson,
who discovers he has inherited an
Earldom and all its trappings. He
clashes hilariously with the
bluebloods of English aristocracy
all the while remaining true to his
love, Sally.
Originally produced in London in
1937, Me and My Girl was one of
the biggest musical hits of its time.
It introduced The Lambeth Walk,
the wildly contagious musical
number which became a dance
craze. Hummable songs in Me and
My Girl include Leaning On A
Lamppost, Once You Lose Your
Heart and The Sun Has Got Its Hat
On.
On Broadway in 1986, Me and
My Girl won three Tony Awards
and five Drama Desk Awards.
