Play leaves them smiling
Screams of delight ,
The ghouls were out in full force last Thursday evening
when The Ark hosted a family fun Halloween night. This
scary individual kept a quiet vigil while others took in some
of the more active pursuits such as the haunted house,
which attracted a huge crowd.
Rhombus media to produce
film of Stratford's 'Journey'
Stratford Festival Artistic
Director Richard Monette and
Rhombus Media announced Oct.
12 that Rhombus will produce a
feature film inspired by Stratford's
hit production of Eugene O'Neill's
Long Day's Journey Into Night.
David Wellington, director of the
critically acclaimed I Love a Mart
in Uniform, will direct the film,
which will commence shooting in
November of 1995 in Toronto. Niv
Fichman and Daniel Iron will
produce for Rhombus, in associa-
tion with CBC, Bravo! and
Telefilm Canada. Cineplex Odeon
Films Canada will handle Canadian
distribution.
The film will feature the
Stratford Festival cast: Martha
Burns as Cathleen, Peter
Donaldson as James Tyrone Jr.,
Martha Henry as Mary Cavan
Tyrone, William Hutt as James
Tyrone and Tom McCamus as
Edmund Tyrone.
The Stratford production of Long
Day's Journey Into Night directed
by Diana Leblanc, ran for two sold-
out seasons at the Tom Patterson
Theatre. David Richards of The
New York Times called this
production of the O'Neill classic
"as absorbing and ultimately as
potent as any I've seen." Vit
Wagner of The Toronto Star said,
"As you are watching it, you can't
imagine being anywhere else — or
that anywhere else even exists."
"In adapting this production for
film, we are committed to eliciting
the same powerful emotions as the
stage version while creating
something fresh and cinematic,"
said Niv Fichman of Rhombus
Media.
The film will be launched
theatrically in the spring of 1996.

On Saturday, Oct. 28 a
performance called Let's Do
Munsch was at the Blyth Theatre.
Although it was based on Robert
Munsch's children's books many
adults, as well as the children in the
audience, enjoyed some laughs.
Some of the stories the
performers acted out were Mud
Prepared
Two-year-old Grant Sparling
of Blyth, son of Steve and
Laurie, was standing by at the
Blyth Public School, Saturday
night. The little firefighter was
taking in the excitement at the
annual Blyth Optimist
Halloween party. Many
youngsters, dressed for the
occasion, were on hand for
the fun and games.
Puddle, Monomer, Be Quiet! and
500 Below Zero. The skits were
both acted out and narrated. They
were well written and the actors
and actresses, who were all local
people performed their roles well.
Often, the audience was caught
off guard and everyone laughed at
some of the silly antics that
Munsch's characters did.
It was very entertaining and kids
left the show smiling.
