Members of the Blyth Figure Skating Club had some ice fun on Saturday during the annual
skate-a-thon. This group, which contained some interesting characters discovered there's
more fun in togetherness.

GRADE 8 NEWS
The Grade 8s are planning a trip
to Quebec. They will be away for
four days and will be leaving right
after May 24. To raise money for
their trip the Grade 8s will be
selling Tavistock cheese. They also
picked apples at Brussels Orchard
on Oct. 7. The students received
$320 towards the cost of their trip
IT'S BEEN A BUSY OCTOBER

This year for Halloween, the
Grade 7/8 have planned an activity
day for Grades K-3. The activities
will include: a haunted house for
Grades 2-3, bobbing for apples in
the barrel, and on a string, story
telling and gross stuff, face painting
and and colouring, crafts, and a
costume relay.
On Friday, Oct. 27 the Brussels
Public School students had a PA
Day. Yeah! This year, the teachers
to Quebec for their apple picking
efforts.
In Science Grade 8 is studying
animal families. Each student is
either studying: Chordates, Porifera,
Coelentrates, Crustaceans, Arthro-
pods, Echinoderms, Bacteria,
Aracnnids, Myriapods or Annelids.
They are completing their poetry
unit in Language Arts by studying
Shakespeare.
GRADE 6/7
Each person has created an
original plan of a community. They
at Brussels Public School, held a
computer workshop in the morning.
They also were involved in
planning meetings in the afternoon.
One hundred and sixty-five
kindergarten to Grade 6 students
attended the Robert Munsch drama
presentation at Blyth last Tuesday.
Richelle Jorritsma said, "It was
good, and my favourite story was
The Mud Puddle!"
On Monday, Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m.
in the gym there will be a
community meeting to learn about
presented them to a group who
evaluated their presentation. Now
groups are creating a 3-D tabletop
model of the community. These
will be presented and evaluated by
the whole class. There are lots of
budding community planners in
this class.
To raise money for their class
trip, 17 Grade 6/is picked stones in
Belgrave for the Kinsmen. They
will also be selling popcorn and
candy at Wingham Valu Mart on
Saturday, Oct. 28. Hope to see you
there.

Monday, Oct. 30.
Last Wednesday, Oct. 25 there
were trustees looking at the new
renovations that we had this
summer in the Brussels Public
School. They also looked for new
ideas for our school, like painting
classrooms that haven't been
painted for a long time, installing
new windows and upgrading the
lighting.
Kevin Meindinger's second goal
of the game with 28 seconds
remaining gave Seaforth a 3-2 win
over Brussels in Bantam hockey
Sunday night. Jason Kellington and
Sam Zahnd scored for Brussels,
who trailed 1-0 after the first and 2-
1 heading into final period action.
In exhibition play last
Wednesday Wingham scored five
first period goals enroute to a 7-1
goal for the Bantams.
The Bantams' next game is
tonight Wednesday in Brussels
against Stephen Twp. Game time is
7:30.

Pupils welcome teacher
MEET MRS. PICKELL
Mrs. Pickell is the Grade 1
teacher, while Mrs. Armstrong-
Gibson is on maternity leave.
Mrs. Pickell attended the
University of Alberta and obtained
a degree in education. She has been
teaching for 11 years now at
different intervals.
She lives in Goderich with her
husband, three children and a dog.
Reading, camping and travelling
are some of the things that she
enjoys. Mrs. Pickell likes pop
music and comedy shows. She
enjoys teaching her class and
thanks the school community for
the warm welcome she has
received here.
